This week's PLAYBACK
Part 1:
Part 2:
Today’s show was hosted by
Tyler Wiard of Elway’s Cherry Creek
as Gabby is on a Mediterranean cruise with husband Mark.
The question of the day:
“How many potatoes does Elway's of
Cherry Creek server over the course of a week?”
Today's theme seemed revolve mostly around callers asking Tyler cooking
questions - specifically: how to cook a good steak on a stove top,
amongst other questions. Fish and chips was a big topic of the day
as well.
Tyler just returned home from a trip to
Napa Valley where he enjoyed great cuisine and learned a great deal
about bio-dynamic wines and the dry vineyards producing them. The
Napa region is leaning toward going back to their original beginnings
using little to no irrigation methods. Frog Leap Winery was one in
particular.
Deloris called in looking for a good
place in Denver which serves fish and chips and a follow up call from
Lynn suggested that GB Fish and Chips on South Broadway was a great
choice.
Connie called in and asked how to cook a
good steak on the stove top. Tyler suggested using a good sauté
pan and let it heat up. Also, letting the steak get to room temp
prior to placing it in the pan is a great tip. After searing it on
both sides, Tyler suggested placing it in a pre-heated oven at 400
degrees until it reaches temperature by using a thermometer. The
thickness of the steak will determine the proper cooking time.
Maryanne called in to ask why prices at
farmer's markets seem higher than those at supermarkets. Tyler
stated that due to the shorter growing season and that farmer's markets
do not buy in bulk - prices may seem higher for some items but the taste
of locally-grown product is superb. Harvest Week just concluded in
Denver which local restaurants featured Colorado-grown product.
Harvest Week
ends today go to
www.eatdenver.com for more information.
Harvest Week features cuisine using only Colorado-grown products and
ingredients.
Maryanne
also suggested that
Bagali's Italian Kitchen
in Broomfield is a great restaurant. The food is wonderful and
reasonably-priced.
Tyler commented on the upcoming
Gabby Dinners.

complete list:
Regina called in and said that she
thinks the calamari at Elway's of Cherry Creek is the best in Denver.
She found a nice Mexican restaurant in North Denver called Casa Verde.
The carne asada was wonderful.
Alma called in an suggested that Red
Robin, strangely enough, was a great place to find fish and chips.
She likes the steak fries and thinks they are a Colorado-based company.
Tyler stated that he knows for a fact that they are. She also
suggested that the Old Stone Church in Castle Rock has great fish
and chips. Alma cooks her steak in a cast iron skillet and renders the
fat cut off the steak first, then cooks the steak in it. Tyler
agreed that is a great way to do it.
Today’s winner:
Annette won the question of the day with her guess of 1,450 pounds.
Elway's of Cherry Creek serves 1,500 pounds of potatoes each week.
Thanks and enjoy a great dining in
Denver.
