REMEMBER TUESDAY IS SEPT. 1 AND THE CHANGING OF ALL THE ARTICLES, COLUMNS, AND FUN ON THE WEBPAGE
www.gabbygourmet.com

Have fun with all-don’t miss the great columnists as well as feature articles, TV appearances, What’s up with Gabby, and of course, the list of upcoming dinners and events.

We were at
Ling & Louie’s on the 16th St. Mall.
1201 16th St., Denver, 80202, 303-623-5464,
My guests were
Jeromy Krug, Amy Meyer Smith of Trinity Wines and

Remember Monday night is our
Gabby dinner at Ling & Louie’s and it will be great.
After Jeromy told us all the great items-you better call fast!!!

The question of the day---how many pounds of dry rice do they use at Ling & Louie’s in a week—700 pounds!!!

We had fabulous food for lunch today---ahi tuna seared and blackened in mustard sauce, mango chicken, a fabulous spinach salad with chicken, blue cheese, nuts, strawberries and tomatoes—and my favorite chicken fried rice.

A lady from
Victory love and cookies stopped by with fabulous cookies and a blueberry crumble-she is with Denver Bread on 3200 Irving-they were terrific.

AND LING AND LOUIE’S HAS FREE PARKING IN THE TABOR CENTER!!!! LUNCH AND DINNER SO THOSE OF YOU COMING TO THE DINNER-BE SURE AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS.

Be sure and set aside time on
Labor Day Weekend-Sept 4-5-6-7 to come down and watch the great demos on the culinary stage. On Friday, at noon, there is a hot dog eating contest and you can enter!!!! At 2.30—the cupcake taste-off-and you might be one of the judges-and you will get to taste!!! On Saturday, Sunday and Monday we have our ice cream eating contest!!! And in between-come see great chefs including Hosea Rosenberg, top chef on Bravo this year, Keegan Gerhard of the Food Network and D-Bar Desserts and more. And the food at Fine Dining is amazing too.

We went to
Morton’s for dinner and it was excellent. Super service, wine, and food. It is high-end and very good. We had the cheese bread, chop salad and tomato onion and blue cheese salad for starters. Then we had the lamb chops, steak, and salmon for entrees-and the mac and cheese which was marvelous. All were so good and we had some terrific wines too.

We went to
Strings fro brunch again—and it is so good-this could become a habit—the food, service, fun, patio, and come casual-no dressing up necessary and prices are so affordable too. We had pancakes and poached eggs-yes that is me!!! And scrambled eggs and nova with toast and trimmings and pancakes with peaches sautéed on top---yum!!!

We went to the preview of
Harvest Week from Sept 12-19. we will be gone but a group of independent restaurants will each do something with a drink or dish that is local. Look for more information.

We bought dinner at the new
Tony’s and ate at home with salmon, corn, fruit salad and fresh tomatoes, avocado and a few of our own goodies—in time to watch Mad Men.

We went to the dinner at
Highlands Garden Café--along with lots of other caring folks-to raise money for a cancer patient who works there. Even the tips, all the staff, etc gave their tips, etc to the cause. And lots of fans turned out. We had Jordan chardonnay-wow!!! And other great wines too. Then we had the great bread, pear and walnut and nut salad, gazpacho, and dates with mascarpone to start—others had scallops and other salads. Entrees were a divine salmon, chicken with prosciutto, duck, quail, scallops and that was just the beginning. It wa all so wonderful. Then the dessert chosen was pecan pie a la mode. It was a perfect night for all and waiting to hear how much money was raised.

Lunch at
Strings was delightful and delicious and we loved it. It was a perfect spot for catching up with my girl friend, and a treat. We had the tuna tartar, the frisee with poached eggs, asparagus and pancetta, and the chicken salad. Everything was wonderful including service!!

We got to go back to
Colt & Gray—just love it—it is gorgeous, great, fabulous food and wine, super service-both efficient and so friendly and everything is wonderful—warm divine bread and butter for all-salmon tartar and gnocchi were our appetizers. Then we had trout, flank steak and the best turkey burger with truffles ever-and this time my side was divine green beans. What fun—inside or out-be there.

TV on Wednesday was great-if you missed it, go to TV appearances and watch the video and see some of the food—taste of Colorado fine dining—is gonna be one big treat this year with amazing food and fun-and the culinary stage too.

We had a great time and went to
Rodney’s in Cherry Creek and it was great. The valet is terrific. The waitress just perfect and the food and wine not only terrific but so well priced it is unreal.

The wine was wonderful-the prices just the best-the place is full of happy diners and I know why. We had onion soup, walleye pike, Cobb salad, fresh turkey sandwich, steak, onion rings and skinny fries-and everything was so good. We passed dessert!!! Had too much good food, wine and fun—it should be on everyone’s list.

We went to the opening of
India’s—they moved overnight and put on one great party. The buffet was full of food-amazing to do—and hot and delicious and the crowd loved it. All the favorite dishes were there- and wine and beer and chai tea too. The space is gorgeous and I know all the Denver fans will love the new place. It is as good as always. Congratulations to one and all here. And there are so many fans—well deserved.

We went to
Luca d’Italia for dinner. The food, wine and service were great, the prices are very high end. Everything is excellent though. We had an amuse of eggplant on toast, and great breads. Then we had octopus and a tomato caprese salad for appetizers and they were wonderful. We ended up with entrees of pasta mostly. We had the lobster ravioli, the Bolognese and the pasta with tomato. And the other entrée was halibut with fresh vegetables that were excellent. Everything was great and so was the service—it was perfect/

Kathy thought
Highlands Garden Café was fabulous on Monday night and did an incredible job for her employee-they raised over $5,000.
She was at Strings for lunch and brunch and adored them both.
We talked about Ted Kennedy having a special breakfast there with his entire group during the DNC and how Noel made his special dishes-It is now on the menu. So try it if you like.

Lydia went to
Sunny Side Café and liked it.

Ron wanted Italian –similar to
Pagliacci’s for his daughter’s birthday—we talked about Shells and Sauce, Maggiano’s, and Gaetano’s for fun Italian in that vane-and very good.

Gwynne went to
Elway’s downtown and loved it. All the food was great-service too.

We talked about many events coming up and things around town.

We were out of time and hope to see you Monday at
Ling & Louie’s or at A Taste of Colorado.

Thanks

Gabby
