Restaurant Show on Saturday August 22, 2009
This week's PLAYBACK
Part 1:
Part 2:
We were at
Brothers BBQ
at 6th and Washington. Love the place, the barbecue—ribs, chicken, beef
ribs, pork, brisket, and all the trimmings!!! Chris and Nick were there
with me—and such fun.
We had great barbecue-and now THEY ARE DELIVERING!!!! YEAH---CALL AND
PLACE YOUR ORDER AND THEY WILL DELIVER. And a new sandwich is
coming-ribs off the bone-yum and easy to eat.
Question of the day: how many
whole chickens (Red Bird, natural) do they serve in a year-35,000. And
the folks of Piatti gave 2 tickets to the Food and Wine Walk Around
tonight.
Next week we are at
Ling & Louie’s
on the 16th St. Mall-next to the Cheesecake Factory-and so much
better-come on down between 1-3 while we are on the radio and say hi.
And have some great goodies to eat too.
Be sure and set aside time on
Labor Day Weekend-Sept 4-5-6-7
to come down and watch the great demos on the culinary stage. On Friday,
at noon, there is a
hot dog eating contest and you can enter!!!!
At 2.30—the cupcake taste-off-and
you might be one of the judges-and you will get to taste!!!
On Saturday, Sunday and Monday we have our
ice cream eating contest!!! And in
between-come see great chefs including
Hosea Rosenberg, top chef
on Bravo this year,
Keegan Gerhard
of the
Food Network
and
D-Bar Desserts
and more. And the food at
Fine Dining
is amazing too.

A
Special Invitation from the Staff at Highland's Garden Cafe.
You are invited to a special
benefit evening for one of our staff members. As part of the
Highlands Garden family for fifteen years, Esther's style and
flair as a pantry chef has been part of thousands of special
occasions and culinary creations. She recently started
treatments to battle cancer and we are donating 100% of all
food costs and tips on Monday, August 24th to offset her rising
medical expenses.
Join us from 5-9PM for a three course meal on the patio or just
dessert with friends. Every purchase and gratuity is greatly
appreciated and will go entirely to Esther and her family.
Reservations are being taken by calling the Cafe at
(303) 458 5920 or online on our
website.
Thank you for taking time to join us for this special cause.
Sincerely,
The Highland's Garden Cafe Staff |
We went to the
Dumb Friends League BBQ dinner
at a private home-it was beyond anything you have ever seen. What an
amazing event for a wonderful cause---they raised a fortune-and it cost
a fortune but was underwritten by supporters-Chris
Isaak
entertained, the chef came from Texas, the wines were amazing. It was
unbelievable.
We went to
Strings
for brunch!!!! It is amazing and divine. We want you in your
Sunday "worst"--just drop on by-not your church clothes (although they
are welcome too), but this is casual, fun, and a super Sunday delight-a
great menu at great prices and relax and enoy!!
I made that up-above-and it is soooo good you want to get there-we had
pancakes, eggs, cherry pancakes, eggs in brioche, scrambled eggs and
bacon, salmon and scrambled and huevos with Phillippe’s great green
chile!!!! Got to get there.
We went to
Wild Basil
for dinner and it is so great. The food, service, portions, prices are
fabulous. We had sushi from the latest—sushi bar and it was so terrific.
We had the rainbow roll, the mango with shrimp tempura, and the white
tuna rolls and lettuce wraps for appetizers. Then we had Peking duck,
royal chicken and teriyaki chicken for entrees. We were too full for
even a bite of dessert. The place is terrific-the portions amazing.
Dinner was from
Strings-and more than
incredible as we had an unexpected day at the doctors. And we picked up
chicken salad sandwiches and salad for dinner and they are the best!!!!
And a glass of wine made it all perfect. And I ordered and got my
Kimmel’s Scottish duke of Edinborough from
Silver Plume tea house---the
best tea ever.
LoDo Bites
was a huge success and fun too-we stopped by
Ice House Tavern,
Morton’s,
Wynkoop
and
McCormick’s.
We stayed for a divine dinner at McCormick’s Seafood and Oyster Bar and
it was marvelous. We had the bread, the gazpacho and the Greek salad to
start. Then we had entrees of a giant whole lobster, wild salmon, and
Petrole sole parmesan and they were all wonderful. And the wine and the
dessert of apple pie a la mode were perfect.
TV was great with steaks and more!!
Fogo de Ciao
was beyond incredible-they brought a grill and cooked for the entire
station!!! And it was amazing.
Fleming’s
is doing a summer fixed price for $35 with salad, steak, chicken, or
fish, sides, and dessert—LoHi has steak and frites for $18, Ice House
was great and Rodney’s Angus huge steak with baked stuffed potato and
veggies is $23. Fogo is $38.50 for the entire meal-as much as you can
eat—or $19.95 for the salad bar only.
So many choices now to keep you busy.
The new
Colt & Gray
is now open. It is at 1553 Platte and it is gorgeous!!! Great décor and
super patio with comfortable the word everywhere. Service is fabulous,
the wine list (and drinks) great, and the food was terrific. We were
served great bread-yeah!!!—and then we had salmon gravlox, heirloom
tomatoes with burrata, and a crispy soft boiled egg frisee salad with
wild mushrooms---all were absolutely wonderful. Then we had the flank
steak, the salmon, the balsamic barbecued quail with grilled broccoli
with anchovy (amazing) and chicken. All were so good-and it was the
second night open. And then we had chocolate ganache cake and homemade
gelato. I can hardly wait to go back.
We went to
Venue
and had a delightful time. The place is charming, the food, wine and
service are all so great. We sat on the patio and loved it all. We had
great bread and peach butter and then corn chowder, carrot soup, and the
heirloom tomato salad for starters. Entrees were the halibut with peas
and several orders of duck with fresh peaches and tomatoes. Both were
excellent and beautiful to see as well. Dessert was a great chocolate
pudding drizzled with butterscotch. The wine was super as well-service
perfect.
Then we went to see Mack Bailey and Rachael Levy at
Dazzle.
He is one of the John Denver band and Limelighters-he is great and so
was the show---and he will be in Aspen for the reunion in October. And
the great
Wine Jester
wine store sponsored the event. Get over to the wine jester and say hi
to Chris—it is super.
We went to
Fleming’s
for dinner. We had great bread and butters to start—and a terrific
bottle of wine. Then we had spinach salad, onion soup, and shrimp
cocktail. Then the entrees were scallops, veal chop pounded and a strip.
Sides were excellent –mac and cheese, green beans, spinach and
mushrooms. We did not have dessert. It is definitely a high end
restaurant. We had a very nice time.
We talked about some great patios—3014 on E. Colfax-a bar there—Shells
and Sauce-roof top patio at
the restaurant 12th and Elizabeth—Strings-Root
Down-fabulous view-Colt
& Gray-new and super patio
too.
Kathy called about
Strings
brunch-love it—me too-and all the great choices. She adored the dinner
at Argyll and the mac and cheese contest too. She had great sushi and
food at Wild Basil and adored the new Colt & Gray-both the food and
décor. McCormick’s was amazing as always.
Diane adored the dinner at
Argyll
and went to
Pinocchio
in Brighton and said it was really great. 177 Bridge St.
We spoke to
David Miarassou
who will be signing bottles at Applejack on Thurs afternoon.
Jackie went to the wine dinner at
Strings
and loved it. And she really enjoys Lala—they do have a great happy hour
too.
Jo asked about
Praha
in Longmont.
Michael called and has been there
Praha
in Longmont and says it is incredible—a real hidden gem. It is Chec,
etc. and worth the trip. It is off highway 66 and 75th St.
We talked about cooking schools and
Johnson & Wales
with Sally who is thinking about going.
Jake adores
Brothers-and he is from Kansas
City-this rocks!
Connie wants the delivery in Westminster—and the number there
303625-2424.
We were way out of time.
Thanks for calling listening and joining in.
