Restaurant Show on Saturday, August 15, 2009.

This week's PLAYBACK
Part 1:

Part 2:

We were at Steve’s Snappin’ Dogs on E. Colfax for the Mac and Cheese Taste Off!!!!
We did not take calls as there was so much to do as we spoke to all the chefs

The winner was
Argyll Gastropub, Morton’s LoDo came in second and Dazzle was third.  They were all great and thank you so much. The audience had several favorites as well. The favorite, other than the winners was Fleming’s. And it was great too. As were all the others.

Next week we are at
Brothers BBQ at 6th and Washington—be there.

And be sure and watch the slide show as well on my webpage about the taste off today.
Thanks to all the judges-and the terrific restaurants that participated.

NEW DINNER

Tuesday, September 8, 2009
6.30 pm

Strings
1700 Humboldt
303-831-7310

Julia—and Gabby—as Julie could not make it—present a dinner at
Strings with recipes straight from the movie, Julia & Julie, and the wonderful book Mastering the Art of French Cooking. We will have a great time-and fabulous food from the repertoire of a fabulous lady. The dinner will be $45 inclusive of tax, tip, and of course, wine—another of Julia’s musts-butter, wine, and a very good time. Reserve early.

For information on
Frisco—Tim Bock—tpwmpffroscp.com or 970-668-2000.

Our trip to Frsico. Colorado was fabulous. The town is incredible, fun, casual, small, affordable and just fun. We had a great time. The bed and breakfast,
Galena Inn was great and comfortable with great people-Isabella and Don running it. Don-and Sage-the hotel dog and divine, even went with me on a walk. The breakfasts and afternoon wine and apps were great too. And there is a promo until the end of September-tell them
Gabby and they will give you a fabulous picnic for two!!!! Call 970-668-3224 or www.galenastreet.com

And we had great meals—at
Tosacato, a super Italian restaurant with a great owner-Bob Kato who visited with us on our remote. The food is super—we had appetizers of tapenade and toasts, divine clams with sauce and bread, and scallops wrapped in prosciutto. The warm bread was great. Then we had salads. The entrees were super-halibut with a caprese salad under it, chicken parmesan with pasta, pasta with sausage and peppers , and a calamari steak with pasta. We were too full for dessert-specially as Bob has a fabulous wine list. Service is great and prices super too.

Then we had breakfast at
Butterhorn Bakery—this place is fabulous!!! --known all over the mountains the place rocks for good reason. It is great-the food, service and prices-and wow!!! We had pancakes and eggs (me), a fabulous egg sandwich with a side of bacon and potatoes, eggy French toast of cinnamon bread--the Butterhorn special of poached eggs, bacon, toast and more—and so good and so much fun.

We did our remote at
Silverheels which is terrific and he owns Kimosabi next to it too.
He is Bob Starkow, a fixture in the town and great gu.

Then we talked about-and went to the
Island Grill which Bob Kato owns-pm the Marina is is super for drinks, snacks, and a great view and great time-\we had all sorts of drinks, salsa and chips and coconut shrimp.

We had to come home but loved our stay.

We came down and had dinner at
Shells and Sauce and it was incredible. We had Caesar, the divine bread, amazing wines thanks to Jeremy, and then entrees of veal saltimbocca with pasta, seafood risotto and a fabulous salmon salad with spinach, dried fruit and more. With fantastic wine and lots of food we passed dessert.

Strings opened for brunch and it was fabulous and the crowd loved it!!! And so did I. it is casual, fun, with a great menu, fun drinks, and a great time. We had pancakes and the most perfect poached eggs, the fireman’s eggs- brioche toasted with sunny side up eggs and wilted spinach and bacon, French toast, omelets, and blackberry crepes-what a great time!!! And this will happen every Sunday from 10-2.

We had a great time at
Cherry Cricket—it is amazing how that place is always mobbed-and everyone is always happy!!! The service is great, the food terrific, the prices right-and that does keep the crowds coming. We ate on the patio and had fried mac and cheese wedges, white chili, a turkey burger, a turkey sandwich, a chicken sandwich, a cheese burger, and a quesadilla and fries and onion rings-and we loved it all.

The Gabby dinner at
Argyll was incredible!!! The fans were thrilled-with good reason. Food, service and great wine made for a special night. We had a divine salad with crispy bacon, peaches, and vinaigrette, and then a perfect pea soup—might be one of the best ever. Then we had monkfish with couscous and mushrooms followed by an amazing rabbit lasagna. The feast ended with a Chantilly dessert that was marvelous. What a treat this night was for all.

We went to
Marco’s Coal Fired Pizza and what a treat. It is always fabulous-and of course, it was. We had great wine, food and service-the rose was great-and then we had the chicken wings—of course—and then the chop salad which was great. Then we had pizzas-the new one-delmar was fabulous-white with truffles and prosciutto-what could ever be bad with that- and Mark’s favorite with tomato sauce and basil and tomatoes. We had tiramisu and cannoli for dessert-and loved it all!!

Did I tell you that I am now learning-and not doing well-to poach an egg-thanks to Noel Cunningham of Strings-I may not graduate from this class!!

TV was great fun with 6 of the places from
LoDo Bites next Tuesday, August 18. it will be great fun and you can visit 20 restaurants to have bites—and chatter.

We went to
Argyll for dinner and it was great!! Lots of parties and guests both inside and on the patio-there was a Murphy Goode wine dinner and we got to enjoy some of the great wines-and then we had dinner with our group-we had deviled eggs and then great salads with spinach, bacon, cheese, peaches and vinaigrette. Entrees were the fried chicken, the salmon of the night with couscous, and the salmon burger and all were great. Then we had Meyer lemon tart and strawberry shortcake for dessert. The service is fabulous too.

We went to
Il Posto for dinner-in time for happy hour we had nice wine at great prices. Then we had the regular menu-the spinach salad with peaches, and the crudo were great. Entrees were scallops with watermelon, sea bass with corn and tomatoes, and buffalo flank steak. We enjoyed all.

We went to the new
Simms Steakhouse on 6th and what a change. The place is beautiful-aside from the view-which is spectacular-you would not recognize it. Modern, great art, a fabulous bar, patio and lounge, private dining room, a wall of wine and comfortable seating set the scene. Service is outstanding, the wine list great. First the rolls-each person gets a “souffle”-the dish filled with 3 warm wonderful rolls and a cruet of honey butter. The tuna tartar and peppered seared tuna and crab cake appetizers were divine. They served a trio of soups-five onion, gazpacho and lobster bisque-great to see and fun to try too. And the Caprese salad (not the usual), and the beet salad were great. We had entrees of a New York Strip, filet, chicken, and scallops. Steak entrees come with vegetables and other categories with risotto, potatoes or appropriate sides. A la carte sides were had were divine creamed corn and mac and cheese. And we had a chocolate soufflé for dessert. Service was great. It is an upscale steakhouse-but casual for diners and kids were welcome as well. It is a great addition to the area-and for steaks in Lakewood!

We had a great time and Steve and Linda of
Steve’s Snappin’ Dogs are the best. We had lots of hot dogs, fried green beans, frozen bananas, cold hot chocolate, and on and on. What great hosts and a great day.

Thanks to all of you who came!!!

It was such fun having you.

Gabby
