Here’s the Scoop from the Gabby Gourmet Restaurant Show on Saturday, April 17 2010.

We were in Santa Fe, New Mexico, at Encantado Resort with a group of Gabby foodies.
My guests were Charles Dale, chef and genius of restaurant Terra, and great friend from days in Colorado. He was one of the top 10 chefs in America from Food and Wine years ago. Jeff Mahan, general manager of the resort was here as well.

The question for the day was how many selections are on Terra's wine list? Winner receives a free nights stay at Encantado Resort and dinner at Terra.

NEXT SATURDAY, APRIL 24—SOME GREAT FUN AT A REMOTE. IT IS AT RANDOLPH’S AT THE WARWICK, 18TH AND GRANT. WEATER PERMITTING WE WILL BE ON THE GORGEOUS PATIO—AND THE RESTAURANT IS GREAT, LIKE A FREE STANDING PLACE. THERE IS COMPLIMENTARY VALET PARKING AND A BIG LOT. WE WANT YOU TO COME DOWN AND TRY IT SO COME WHILE WE ARE ON THE AIR-OR EARLIER-AND SAY GABBY WHILE WE ARE THERE (FROM 11.30 ON) AND ALL ENTREES ARE 50 PERCENT OFF FOR THAT TIME.

We will give a full description of this amazing place next week when we get home.

Spring is here so we walked to breakfast and Strings!!!! Steak and eggs Benedict, over easy and bacon—anything works and it is all wonderful-so good and so much fun. Lots of casual folks on the patio-and in the restaurant. It is summer and fun at Strings.

Strings again—it was Mark’s birthday and the place for a family party and dinner-and we loved it all. We had gazpacho-finally back and love it, and the asparagus prosciutto salad for starters. Then we had penne bagutta, risotto, cappellini with mozzarella and tomato sauce, halibut, rigatoni with walnuts and scallops, and the new chicken-and loved it all. The birthday tray of all chocolate with mousse cake, lollipop brownie, truffles and more was a perfect and fun ending. Service is so good and the place so friendly and warm—and one can even sit on the patio now.

Dinner at Olivea was fabulous!!! It was so amazing that we made reservations for Project Angelheart. We had great drinks and wine and then the pork rillette with onion jam, and the lamb sausage flatbread with eggplant-divine. Then we had the tuna crudo, the chickepeas fried ---oh divine, the steak frites and the caveltelli—all were just super. Then we had panna cotta, pear tart and a chocolate delight-the wines were great and our server just the best. Can hardly wait to go back-but we are.

We went to Root Down for another-as always-night of perfect food, wine, and service. It is just the best. We had delicious bread and the gazpacho cantaloupe soup and then the special salad of greesn fiddlehead fern, ramps, mushrooms and fried goat cheese-divine. So were the samosas, the carrot gnocchi, and the sweet potato falafel. Then several of us had the halibut and one had the duck sliders-all were perfect. And so was the chocolate tart with spiced macadamia nuts and Cuban ice cream. The wine was super too. What a treat to dine here.

We went to Stella’s East on E, Colfax and it was great fun. First the patio is super and perfect now that the weather is nice. It is totally casual and affordable and service is great. So was the staff. The bread is divine-then we had terrific fried calamari. Entrees were the 32nd st. salad-super, and one of the many pizzas-with pineapple and prosciutto-it was great. Then one of our group had risotto. The chocolate mousse-pot de crème-was divine and decadent. The wine list is great. We were there on Wed. and all bottles are half price!!

We went to a new place—Satchel’s and it is terrific-very small, funky, and so good. Got the hint from Amanda at 5280---and what a find. Very casual so don’t look for upscale décor, but the food is incredible. Serviced and wine were great too. The homemade bread is super and so was the tuna tartare-the best. Then we had the halibut and the skirt steak—thrus—we were there and it was a burger and beer for ten bucks and it looked amazing. Everything on the menu was super-it changes every week—and they have weekend brunch. Can hardly wait to go back—will write more soon.

Cathy called and went to Faro, Satchel's and Root Down. All were wonderful and she especially enjoyed Satchel's brunch.

Cindy from Colorado Springs called to say she loves Santa Fe, the village market and shopping.

Lydia called in to ask where a great tea house would be outside of Denver. Silver Plume Tea Room was suggested.

Jerry from Boulder called in to suggest Larkburger.

Troy from Lafayette called in and talked about Marvin "Chip" Webb, the owner of Chip's Place who passed away last week after getting hit by a bus while riding his bike. Troy and his family still visit Chip's place and his kids love the Mickey Mouse pancakes.

Marie called to state that she loves Gabby's website and uses it often to find great restaurants and reviews. She went to Tables in Park Hill and Strings on 17th.

Chris from Fort Collins called in about the Moot House located at
2626 South College Avenue.
