Restaurant Show on Saturday,
March 6, 2010
This week's PLAYBACK
Part 1:
Here’s the Scoop from the Gabby
Gourmet Restaurant Show on
Saturday, March 6, 2010.
I was in New York. It was a wild
weekend vacation and the
incredible Danny Meyer has
selected our dining spots—I will
give you a full rundown next
week---and all the details. Stay
tuned.
Steve Miller, Netnewsdesk—and my
son was hosting. His guests were
Margaret, the great pr lady from
the Marketing Trust, and Blair
Taylor of Barolo Grill.
I WOULD LOVE YOUR REVIEWS FROM
DENVER RESTAURANT WEEKS—PLEASE
SEND THEM TO ME AND I WILL PUT
THEM UP ON THE WEB GOOD OR BAD,
JUST WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU.
THANKS, GABBY
The questions of the day were;
How many courses did Barolo
Grill serve during Denver
Restaurant Week and what's the
square inch difference is there
between a 20" pizza and a 10"
pizza at Ernies.
5280 week continued and we went
to Firenza below Parisi-the
place was packed, service was
great and the food excellent. We
had the fried mozzarella, the
prosciutto with fried pizza
dough, the panzanella salad and
the spinach salad to start. Then
we had scallops and risotto, the
chicken, and the salmon and all
were so good. Desserts were
tiramisu, bread pudding, and
panna cotta. We ordered one of
the wines on special too. It is
a super place to visit.
Breakfast on Sunday often means
Strings-as often as we can get
there-love the upbeat mood, the
super service and the best
food-and all at affordable
prices. Several had the
fireman’s eggs-I called them
eggs in a hole—poached or fried
eggs in brioche toast with
bacon, spinach and fruit. And
then there is that person-me-who
always goes for poached eggs and
pancakes—the benedicts were
fabulous too.
We went to dinner at SALT in
boulder-did not know they were
in restaurant week-but we did
not have the dinner anyway. We
sat at the cooking bar and had a
ball-the chefs are terrific,
entertaining, and so talented.
The general manager and
sommelier were amazing and
helpful too. We watched
everything and wanted one of
every thing they turned out—but
we finally decided-well sort
of-it was so hard. We had the
sausage flatbread-divine-bread,
and French fries—they looked so
good we ordered some to start.
Then we had the pear and polenta
---a signature item from
chef/owner Bradford Heap. Then
we had the rotisserie chicken
with stuffing, the pork chop,
the lamb shank and the scallop
risotto. Each dish was better
than the next-like perfect. Then
we had the chocolate caramel
salt topped tart with coffee ice
cream. The wines were wonderful
too. It was fantastic.
5280 week continued with dinner
at Table 6—now there is another
big treat!!! One of my
favorites, they do it right. The
food was fabulous, the service
just the best. The bread is
sensational and so was the fried
Brussels sprouts salad and the
house salad-we did not have the
ham wrapped fried pork. Entrees
were the best salmon, shoulder
steak, and a vegetarian dish.
And desserts were choice of
coconut cream pie on a walnut
cookie or the beignets. All were
wonderful and the place rocks.
Still going strong-the
restaurants and the crowds and
we went to Restaurant Kevin
Taylor. It was perfect-the
ambience, the service is beyond
perfect, the food—all divine. We
started with an amuse of ravioli
with sage butter, great warm
rolls, and then the mache, apple
salad, the tdf gnocchi with
mushrooms and a poached egg, and
squash soup that was perfect.
Entrees were perfect too-steak
and brisket, lamb loin and lamb
ravioli, and salmon with
lentils. Each was perfect with
lovely accompaniments. Then the
desserts were crème brulee with
fresh fruit and semifredo with
chocolate sauce and spun sugar.
And then the cookies that come
with the bill sweeten the entire
meal. It was such a trea.t
Burger Madness continued on TV
on Wednesday on Channel 7 with
Walk-In Burgers, H BurgerCO,
Salt, Deluxe Burger, and
Cheeburger, Cheeburger. All were
great
And this coming Wednesday—it’s
time to get ready for ST,
Patrick’s day and we will be
showing off-the segment airs
around 11.30 on Channel 7 on the
11am news—on Wednesday. We are
doing this on March 10 so you
have time to make your plans for
the big day.
We went to Shells and Sauce-and
it was 5280 or not—and we were
OR NOT!!! It was sort of a treat
just to have dinner-we had the
great bread and dipping
sauce-then we all had Caesar
salads, Entrees were chicken
parmesan-divine-and vongole with
white sauce and one with
puttanesca and then we ended it
all with tiramisu. It was
great-fun neighborhood place
with great food, super
service-and fun.
We went to Rodney’s Cherry Creek
for dinner---no 5280!!!! Yeah
for us and I was on my way out
of town. We had a great dinner
as always-food is super, prices
affordable, service fun—and a
place to go for sandwiches,
burgers, great steaks, salads,
Mexican food, and more. And
yummy desserts too.
