Restaurant Show on Saturday, December 12, 09

This week's PLAYBACK
Part 1:

Part 2:

Here’s the Scoop from the Gabby Gourmet Restaurant Show on Saturday, December12, 2009.

We were at the Winejester Wine Shop on 43rd and Tennyson.
Chris and Mickey Smith were our hosts. The store is fabulous with its $10 wall of wine—from all over the world and so good—and of course, there is a gigantic selection of other wines too. And the gifts-from bags, glasses, etc to the latest wine decanter for a glass-I did buy one before I left.

We had several guests from the neighborhood----

Tastes with Daniel—they are open nightly on Tennyson---and on . 17th Ave as well. They do savories and sweets and great wines.

Swing Thai with Will- a great Asian spot with divine chicken and tilapia—and everything. Eat in or carry out and Will and friend are opening a new Swing Thai in the Jet Hotel-you can enter straight into it from the back.

Chris from House where we are having a great Gabby dinner on Jan. 19=---just call and make a reservation and join us. They do dinner nightly and Sunday brunch-we had a fabulous quiche from there today. Sunday night is charity night and part of the proceeds go to a different charity each Sunday.

Danielle and Wade from Brasserie Felix do super French bistro food-on Monday it is mussels and wine half price, Mon-Thurs a three course dinner for $19.95 and wine tastings on Thurs.

We also gave away Belfiore Sausage and a gift basket from the Wine Jester—

Chris and Mickey were incredible!!! Pretty Sally is the choice for Chanukah food and dinner—and we have tried it-that is the wine we are taking to Chanukah dinner tomorrow.

On TV on Wednesday we did new places. NEXT WEEK WILL FEATURE RESTAURANTS OPEN ON CHRISTMAS DAY
AND DON’T FORGET PLACES LIKE INDIA’S WHERE WE GO –IT IS OUR ANNUAL, BUT ETHNIC SO NOT ON THE TV SPOT. THIS IS CHANNEL 7 ON THE 11AM NEWS.

We went to Café Brazil for dinner and it was great-here the casual surroundings set the scene with fabulous service and food and great wine at nice prices—and a super time. We had black bean and gazpacho-the 2 soups offered with your meal—and banana bread and a brown bread too. Then we had the rack of lamb-limited on certain nights and until they run out-and sooooo good-then the scallops galena, and the chicken with spices too. All were fabulous and so were the desserts-a custard cake with coconut and the best chocolate cherry semi-freddo. It is a great treat here.

Strings on a miserable Sunday certainly brightens the day---and a perfect spot for brunch-no need to get dressed up and the prices are right. We had the huevos which are divine and the great omelet. Hot tea and lots of fun makes it perfect.

We had dinner from Steuben’s. They have a terrific carryout and you can even drive up to the takeout window (door) and you can pick it up in there or they will bring it to you in your car. We had TOMATO SOUP—the best!!! And then the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and biscuits and the cobb salads—so much fun if you want to eat at home.

The annual holiday lunch at Strings fro the seniors at the YMCA took place on Monday. Noel has done this for years and 60 lucky people attend. The food, service, and wine were fabulous---we started with house salad, Caesar, or red pepper bisque and then the choice of very gorgeous and generous entrees were salmon, steak, chicken, or penne bagutta. Everyone was thrilled and then dessert: chocolate mousse cake, apple, cranberry crisp a la mode, or crème brûlée. Everyone was so thrilled and Strings is a perfect host.

We went with an out of town guest to Elway’s Cherry Creek- Wow!!!! Food, service, wine, fun---what a great spot-and our guest was beyond impressed and delighted. We started with deviled eggs ( a special for the night), the amazing calamari, and the Caesar salad. Then we had the filet, the strip, chicken, and duck (with persimmons in the potatoes and amazing) and sides of crab fried rice-the best—and wonderful mushrooms. Desserts were the seriously chocolate cake-and it is—and strawberry cheesecake. Everything was perfect!!! What a treat.

Le Chateau may win as dinner of the year!!!! IT WAS OUTRAGEOUS, FABULOUS, AND THE BEST. 5Courses with matching wines-great wines and better food if possible. We had the spinach, bacon, cheese salad first. Then came fabulous lobster ravioli. The next course of rare tuna with smoked tomatoes was the best thing ever. Except the next course was rack of lamb with an onion ring around it and a potato cake. Each dish was so incredible---and then—everyone had pear soufflés-hot, puffy and divne with a dessert wine. What a fete-congratulations to James Mazzio, Sarah, Bruce and all-and our thanks—and sign up for the Prime Steak dinner as the restaurant is owned and operated by the same crew.

We went to Mizuna for dinner and as usual when one visits there, the experience is very special. We had the breads and then the sweet potato, bacon and cheese salad, the roasted beet salad, and the sweetbreads for starters. Then we had entrees of scallops, shrimp, lamb, and duck. All were great. We passed on dessert—and the valet gets an award for standing in the cold and being so nice.

Then we went to Mangiamo Pronto!!! And other winner and great Italian food at such reasonable prices-all homemade and fantastic!!!! We had the white bean dip with the great grilled bread they serve. Then we had the roasted tomato and housemade mozzarella salad-to die for again. Then our entrees were pastas-the homemade noodles with meatballs and divine red sauce and THE BEST carbonara with bacon, pancetta, a fried egg and parmesan cream sauce. Dessert was tiramiss-and the wine was fabulous asl well.

We had lunch at Strings—the old lunch bunch and we had weird but wonderful things-we got to have Noel’s great omelets, and the BLT sandwich-with super chips and super fun and perfect service too. Get over there for a super treat.

Dinner at Parallel 17 was fabulous-it is mobbed and fun with great service, super happy hour, and great food. We shared lots---and lots---lamb imperial rolls, tempura green beans, pommes frites, pho, salmon, rabbit wonton, tuna nicoise---so much food but so good. And then the best pineapple upside down cake a la mode with caramel too. It is really great—and they will be open Christmas Day.

Alan called about the Gabby dinner at Le Chateau---it was beyond divine—and don’t forget to sign up for Prime Steak as it is the same people-and he was in awe over soufflés coming out perfect at the same time-and not collapsing and being hot!!!

Betty called about le Chateau as well and could not believe the whole evening. And her other favorite is Red Tango—a favorite of all of ours there.

Talla loves Swing Thai, Parisi and is going to try the new House!!!

Gerri was looking for a place in Larimer Square for Sunday-not brunch—we discussed Ted’s Montana grill-then the Market, Osteria Marco, and Samba Room-all great for lunch and not too expensive.

Steve called to say he and his daughter have had lunch at Cru, another great choice.

Kimberly called about Bowles Café on C-470---it sounds fabulous ---give it a try!!!
Lunch and dinner and it sounds so good.

We talked about brunch at Strings and how great it is---the food is very reasonable and absolutely wonderful. They do a special Christmas Eve night too.

We were way out of time.

Happy Chanukah to our Jewish listeners and callers-and we are getting ready for the holiday for all.

Thanks for listening
Gabby
