Restaurant Show on Saturday,
January 16, 2010
This week's PLAYBACK
Part 1:
Here’s the Scoop from the Gabby
Gourmet Restaurant Show on
Saturday, January 16, 2010.
My guests were Janet and Mike
Johnston of Savory Spice—my
favorite place to buy fabulous
spices---oh so good-and they
have great recipes too to share
with you.
And Steve Miller of
Netnewsdesk.com
The questions of the day:
How many ounces of mulling mix
did they sell in December-1916
How many fennel seeds are in 1/
2 cup jar. 9954
We also gave a lucky caller a
gift certificate to Piatti
Locale, in Cherry Creek North-a
favorite of all—for good reason.
There are so many great spices
here—over 500
We are doing a remote on
February 13 in their Platte
shop—come down and visit and we
will hear about all the great
spices.
Their locations
1537 Platte
Colorado Springs-110 N. Tejon
Littleton-2650 W. Main
Lowry-2nd and Quebec
They love Masterpiece Deli-so do
we.
BAGEL DELI FOR LUNCH AND CHUNKA
MUNKA COOKIES WERE GREAT.
NEXT WEEK WE ARE AT STEVE’S
SNAPPIN’ DOGS FOR THE PIZZA
TASTE OFF AND THERE ARE TASTES
FOR ALL THE SPECTATORS SO COME
ON BY
THE GABBY DINNER AT HOUSE
RESTAURANT IS THIS TUESDAY, THE
19TH—IT WILL BE GREAT AND FUN
TOO. SEE YOU THERE.
PANZANO-closed till next week
for redoing
Steuben’s sent out this letter.
Just keeping you aware of our
"green" efforts at Steuben's.
These are our new reusable take
out bags for Steuben's. We are
giving them out for free with
all orders of $25 or more. They
are great for the market or the
beach. For a limited time we
will be giving a free order of
Steuben's French fries when
guests bring back their bag for
their next take out order.
We went to Sushi Sasa for
dinner—what a treat. And they
are expanding next door—good for
them. We all had the great
salads and sushi and it is a
real treat here. Service is
perfect too.
Dinner at 240 Union was
fabulous. The place looks great,
the food, wine and service are
great too. The bread is one of
the best in town!!! And we
started with salmon
sliders-yum-like salmon
burgers-and then the autumn
salad and the beet salad with
cheese. Then we had the coffee
crusted duck breast with
parmesan grits, the chicken with
sweet potato hash, the salmon,
and the pork chop with risotto.
Everything was divine and we
were too full to have dessert.
We went to Brasserie Felix for
dinner. It was good-Monday night
has specials-mussels half
price-but we had the $20 three
course special—and then other
dinners as well. The special was
very good-we all had a lovely
salad and the coq au vin, and
the sole. Then we had onion soup
and duck—and dessert was
profiteroles and crème brulee.
It was very nice-and our waiter
was super.
Shanahan’s is great—and rocks.
We went for dinner and it was
wonderful. Again, the place is
gorgeous-and the service one of
the most perfect ever. We had
the new bread that is divine-and
then the great calamari, beet
salad, and Caesar. Entrees were
salmon, sea bass, chicken, and a
bone in filet. This shows that
there are lots more than just
great steaks here. Sides were
mac and cheese, onion rings, and
spinach. Dessert was the lemon
cake. Wines are super as
well-and the patio-when you can,
is amazing.
The Gabby dinner at Highlands
Garden Café was
fabulous-although I was not
there-everyone was nice enough
to write me---and part of the
family got to go. I am home!!!
With a kidney stone-such a mess.
The folks did send me the
fabulous soup, amazing chicken
entrée, and salad-and brownie.
So I did sort of get to be part
of it.
The wines, service, and food
were just amazing. And the place
is so gorgeous with decorations.
We had a great dinner at
Strings. But it was FROM Strings
as I could not make it out. We
had fabulous chicken soup,
divine rolls and breadsticks,
salad, and super pastas. One was
fusilli with crab and shrimp and
the other simple pasta with oil,
garlic, and parmesan. What a
great dinner.
Dinner at Le Chateau was great.
Both it and Prime Steakhouse
were full-nice to see. We had
the great breads, calamari,
smoked salmon with fennel salad,
and the spinach salad with
dates, bacon and cheese for
starters. Then we had the
lobster ravioli, the filet, the
red deer, and the chicken with
mushrooms for entrees and all
were great. The pumpkin soufflé
with rum raisin anglaise was
divine too. It was a real treat
and the complimentary valet is
great too.
Gwynne went to Le Chateau and
adored it-the best steak she
ever had-and the sauce too.
Monica had just come from Savory
Spice where her whole list of
unknown to her spices for Indian
cooking were there—and she got
them all-and in the proper
amounts too.
Kathy loved 240 Union, the gabby
dinner at Highlands Garden Café
that was perfect, BOA, Marco’s
and Le Chateau-before theater
was terrific too.
Lydia loved the pizza at Wazee
Supper Club-and it is one of the
entrees in the pizza tasteoff
next Sat. at Steve’s.
Nina loves the lamb spice at
Savory Spice. And the Kitchen
restaurant in Boulder.
We talked about burgers-and some
favorites were Mel’s on Orchard,
Bang!, and encore.
Fred wants Windstead’s from
Kansas City in Denver—he said
Choppers has a good one and Red
Robin for a chain.
Steve Snappin’ Dog called and we
listed the pizza contestants-and
the time is next Saturday from
1-3 at Steve’s—E. Colfax and
Monroe-you will get to taste the
pizzas as well as the judges.
Ty wants Savory Spice seasoning
for cottage cheese and for fried
chicken-and they have them
both!!!!
Sharon says the best burger
---and bun---is at Dazzle.
We were way out of time.
Thanks for listening and calling
See you at House on Tuesday
night-and next Saturday at Steve
Snappin Dogs.
