Restaurant Show on Saturday,
November 21, 09
This week's PLAYBACK
Part 1:
Here’s the Scoop from the Gabby
Gourmet Restaurant Show on
Saturday, November 21, 2009.
We were at Tony’s Market signing
my new Gabby Gourmet Restaurant
Guide 2010. Thank you so much
for making it number one on the
best seller list!!!!
The new Tony’s is at 950
Broadway and so great. My guests
were Tony, and Amy Smith of
Trinity Wines was there to help
us pick wine for Thanksgiving.
Amy told us about great pinot
noirs, chardonnay and late
harvest wines to accompany the
turkey.
Question of the day-how many
pounds of raw and cooked turkey
will all the Tony’s Markets use
before Thanksgiving—50,000
lbs—that is a lot of turkey.
Marco of Marco’s Coal Fired
Pizza stopped by and they are
doing weekend brunches-Saturday
and Sunday==and he wants to do a
Gabby brunch there-so keep
tuned.
He gave away a gift certificate
to someone who heard it on air
and stopped by-we had several
takers-but the first one won.
Tony’s has a great happy hour at
9th and Broadway on food and
wine-we sampled the meatball
sliders-they were great
And we had the best turkey
sandwiches and egg salad too.
And the tea is fabulous. And we
enjoyed Kelli’s rum cakes too.

This week on TV –Wednesday on
the 11am news on Channel 7—watch

holiday.
And to all-have a wonderful
Thanksgiving---eat well, be
well, and travel safe.
We will be doing a remote in
Aspen at the new Il Mulino
restaurant—next to the
Residences of Little Nell—and
will share new treats in Aspen
for the season.
We went to the new Le Chateau
restaurant for dinner—it is
located where La Fondue is—they
still do have the fondue but
James Mazzio has taken over the
Le Chateau side of the menu and
it was incredible. See above at
the new dinner to know how much
we loved it. We had zillions of
dishes-there were several of us.
We had the citrus cured salmon
platter, the beef tartare with a
quail egg, the spinach salad
with bacon, bleu cheese, dates,
and apples, for starters. The
breads were great too. And the
shrimp bisque was excellent.
Then we had the pappardelle with
lamb shank, peas and carrots and
the lobster risotto.
Then we had divine grouper spicy
with coconut Thai rice and curry
broth, the texas quail with
apricot stuffing, garlic haricot
vert, and black currant sauce,
the pork tenderloin with harissa
yams, and the Colorado lamb
chops with baby fennel stew.
Each dish was just incredible. 3
mini ice cream sandwiches with
different cookies and ice cream
fillings and a chocolate soufflé
ended the fabulous meal. Sarah,
the general manager is about the
most charming lady, and the
wines and service were great. Be
sure and get a seat while
available for the dinner!!
Strings for brunch on that
wintry morning was great. The
fans were enjoying it—and for
good reason. The food is great,
service perfect, and so warm and
friendly. We had the fireman’s
special, 2 eggs over easy in
brioche toast with bacon and
spinach and the omelet that was
divine.
Enzo’s End was our carryout for
dinner-a great big pizza and
salad make for a night at home
of dining-and the chocolate
covered apples from Edible
Arrangements made the night!!!
We went to Shazz for dinner and
had a lovely time. The place is
really fun looking and our
service was fabulous. The food
was excellent too. Lovely bread
and spreads arrive and the wine
list is very nice. Appetizers of
a warm cheese with tomatoes and
capers and the most divine
squash soup started the meal.
Then we had the great pork chop,
walleye that was great and black
cod that was terrific with
persimmon risotto. The pumpkin
sticky pudding with yummy
caramel and pumpkin ice cream
was decadent and divine. It was
a great experience,
The Gabby dinner at India’s the
great one, in the new Tiffany
Square on Tamarac and Hampden
across from Fresh Fish CO---was
totally awesome!!!! The food,
the service, the wine and beer,
and the great new space
delighted all. We had super wine
and beer-and chai tea too-and
then the poppadums, the onion
fritters, and the chicken tiki
for appetizers. Then came
tandoori chicken, lamb paneer,
cauliflower and potatoes, shrimp
curry, and eggplant—and rice,
etc to go with. And then mango
galub jamon or rice pudding for
dessert.
We had some fabulous food from
Pierre Michel—and new bakery and
also place for breakfast, lunch,
and dinner in Highlands Ranch.
The breads and pastries are
divine—get over. It is 2624 E.
Highlands Ranch Parkway in
Village Center West
303-471-4828—stop by and also
order goodies now for the
holidays.
We went to House for dinner-what
a delightful spot- a real
neighborhood find and such fun.
Start with bread and then we had
the steak pizza and the
vegetarian margarita-both were
fabulous-thin crust and tasty
with great cheeses, etc. and the
tomato soup with grilled cheese
sandwich was fabulous. Then we
had the meatloaf, the pork
tenderloin, the lasagna, and the
peach and pork salad for entrees
and all were so good—and a bit
of room for peach cobbler a la
mode. Prices are great, service
too and a real treat.
Heavenly is the treat for the
Truffle dinner at Barolo
Grill—and if not, at least part
of it when you can order a dish
or two with the glorious
truffles-and enjoy the rest
without. We had the fabulous
wine, food and service-from the
valet on for dinner. The bread
is sensational-and then we
started with the poached egg
custard in the shell with
truffles---to die for and enough
to make anyone happy. Then we
had the Bibb lettuce with pears,
nuts, cheese and all sorts of
goodies, the carpaccio beet
salad with cheese, the crispy
sweetbreads with marmalade, and
the fried duck egg with donuts
of asparagus filled dough. Then
we had the short ribs, the pasta
with truffles and porcini (tdf
again), and the Bolognese pasta.
Everything was perfect and we
were too full for dessert-and my
wine was amazing too.
We had a fabulous dinner at
TAG—the place was mobbed,
service great, and food and wine
terrific—what a treat. Troy has
it together with a great menu
and super food-ask for bread and
the best brioche is served-and
the escargot amuse was divine.
Then we had the onion dumplings
and seafood potstickers-and the
beet salad—and the beef entrée
to share as an entrée-and all
were so good—the entrees were
divine-walleye with the best
sauce, scallops, and black
cod—so divine were all. Then we
ended with sticky toffee pudding
cake a la mode and lobster ice
cream!!
The dinner was great/
GB Fish is opening on Sheridan
too.
Rae loved 240 Union.
We had several calls-about the
crown roast of pork or lamb-yes
they have it!!!
And tenderloins for Christmas
are here in any size-there are
cooking instructions as well if
you like. And they will cook or
get ready anything you want for
the holidays.
Look at the link under TV
Appearances this week for their
turkey display—hit the link to
TV segment and enjoy.
Kathy loved the bakery, the
gabby dinner at India’s and the
new Le chateau—and she is very
excited about both that one and
the dinner at House.
And remember Le Chateau and
Prime Steak next door serves a 3
course pre theater dinner for
$18=---and you can park with
them till after the
performance!!!
Gwyne enjoyed Smashburger and
had a nice lunch at Yia Yia’s.
Barb went to Root Down and
adored it!!! We talked about all
the new goodies on the menu.
Sandy called to say Cool River
will be open for Thanksgiving.
We were way out of time.
Thanks for listening and again,
Happy Thanksgiving.
