This week's PLAYBACK
Part 1:
Part 2:
Tom Ryan of Smashburger was my guest along with Amy Smith of
Trinity Wines
We were at 104th and Federal and the place was mobbed the entire time.
The food is great-we
loved the smashburgers and had them many ways-all incredible so were the
fries, the onion
rings, the amazing milkshakes and malts—and the smash chicken too-buns
great, sides, and
all-what a treat-and of course, affordable. There are several around
town.
Amy told us about a great wine tasting at Inverness on November 18—35
wines and come on over.
The question of the day—how many lbs. of meat did they use last Saturday
in that one
location—383-unbelievable!!!
THE NEW GABBY GOURMET RESTAURANT GUIDE, 2010 IS HERE~!!!!
Phone Gear, Cherry Creek Mall Kiosk—It is located on the first floor of
the Cherry Creek Mall,
in between Rockport and Metropark. I met Avi, the owner, at the dr.
office where they were
taking blood-and a bit concerned over him. He was fabulous- My blue
tooth did not ever work-and
he said so---we left and became close friends as he brought me a new
one-THAT WORKS!! They are
very efficient and well trained and all the phone stores recommend them
for all the
gear-accessories, etc. They are totally trained, well priced, and great
people. Avi called and
said he wants to do something for all my listeners.
Listen to this—
Go over, and get whatever you need—or want!!!---and get one free. That
is awesome. The only
thing you need to do---IS SAY GABBY SENT ME!!! And he will do this until
the end of October.
Get over there-and I will be shopping too.

We were at the Smashburger on 104th and Federal. The great chain won
best burger on the A-List
on Channel 7. We featured it—along with other winners last Wednesday on
the 11am news on
Channel 7 .—watch my segments each Wednesday at that time. I usually
come on around 11.30 but
tune in for all-it is a great newscast.
My guest was Tom Ryan, head of the company.
We went to McCormick’s Fish House and Oyster Bar in LoDo and it was
fabulous. New executive
chef Joe is great and so was the meal, the service, and it was so busy.
We had the great bread
and then the wedge, the Greek salad and French onion soup for starters.
Then some of us had the
FRESH crab legs-you must go and have them-call first to be sure they are
there. Then we had the
Hawaiian spearfish and the petrole sole with parmesan. We had a side of
sweet potato casserole
with nut streusel. Joe has promised me the recipe for the webpage and
THANKSGIVING!!! Or
anytime-it is so addictive. We had the new chocolate cake a la mode for
dessert. And the wines
were super too. What a treat.
Shells and Sauce is a perfect Sunday night—or any night-place for the
best Italian food, great
wines, super wonderful friendly people and great service and prices. We
had the wonderful
bread-warm and fresh with super dinning sauce. Then we had the Caesar
and the tomato bisque for
starters. The entrees of veal chop parmesan with pasta, the cheese
ravioli, and the marinated
chicken breast with grilled veggies and potatoes with a balsamic
reduction were so amazing-and
so good=perfect with super size portions too. We passed dessert-and my
wine—an Andrew Pick- was
perfect.
Think I forgot to mention my standing egg salad order at Bagel Deli-on
Monaco and Hampden—do I
love it—I will make a special trip from home several times a week to get
this perfect egg
salad. No junk in here- just divine eggs and mayo—and salt and pepper
but who cares. I do get
bagels, and everything else there too-and stay for lunch as the poached
eggs on a pancake are
pretty amazing here.
We went down to Mangiamo Pronto! On the corner of 17th & Wazee. It was
great!!! It is where
Common Grounds was and it resembles a coffee house-but wow-the décor is
super with bright
colors and fun. Order at the counter-yes it is Italian and divine. It is
simple with
appetizers, salads, sandwiches and pizza and all shine. We had the
chicken breast, arugula,
clack currant, house vinaigrette pannini, grilled with cheese and
divine, and then the tuna,
roasted tomato tapenade pannini. Sides are the best chips or garbanzo
bean salad. And then we
shared the mushrooms, mozzarella, and provolone flat pizza. And then
ended with espresso
brownie gelato—to die for. The coffees and teas are great-and the wine
list too. Get in
there-it is totally casual, but totally delicious.
The Gabby dinner at Annie’s Café was terrific-and fun and good-and the
Broncos played-and
everyone had a super time. The meal was just great-we started with
granola, fruit, yogurt
parfaits, then French toast sliders. Entrees were gigantic-eggs your way
with pancakes,
potatoes, bacon and sausage-or eggs with biscuits and gravy and
potatoes, or a huge omelet, or
burritos smothered in green chile—or if you prefer, burgers with fries.
And all were thrilled
with their choices-then came banana cream pie, apple streusel or
gingerbread-and beer, bloody
Mary’s, momosa’s, champagne, or whatever—it was just one big hit!!
I was invited to give a speech at Temple Emanuel with their new
cookbook—and my restaurant
guide too. It was great fun and the people were super.
Thanks to all there.
TV with some of the A List winners was great-never saw so much food!!!
We had Smashburger, then Parry’s Pizza with pizza, calzone, and wings-the
Wingman brought the
most-wings, fried
zucchini, French fries, onion rings, celery, fries, chicken, fish
sandwiches, burgers and mini
burgers, corn dogs—Bang! Came with meatloaf, shredded pork with corn
bread and bbq and
gingerbread while Morton’s brought the miniburgers from the bar bites
and the porterhouse and
asparagus. Finally it was national garbanzo bean day—honest-so Garbanzo
Mediterranean Grill
brought hummus and the works—we got a schwarma and it was super.
We went to Interstate for dinner and had some fun things-tomato soup
with grilled cheese
sandwich, Caesar salad, buffalo meatloaf, white fish and trout.
Dinner at the new C*Y Steak happened before the official opening. But
they are open with a soft
opening. This is the return of Cliff Young—and many of his staff!!- to
the scene. It is in the
Diamond Cabaret and must say there are ladies on the runway if you care
to gaze—we did not. Too
much food and fun-Cliff brings lots of tableside service back with his
famous Caesar,
chateubriend, and rack of lamb—a real treat watching him cook.
Charcuterie and the seafood
platter both are wonderful—the oysters with sorbet very special as are
the housemade pates.
Wonderful rolls are served. We also had the great chopped salad and saw
a caprese of a whole
tomato with the goodies inside. The steaks are prime and delicious and
there are seafood
choices of lobster, salmon, tuna, and chicken too. Each is served with a
marrow bone-dig in and
love it, and your choice of one of seven sides to complement your
entrée. Sides were perfect
for sharing and we loved them: forbidden rice, potatoes galore, bok choy,
broccoli, asparagus
and even hush puppies. The desserts are outrageous and huge—chocolate
mousse, crème brûlée,
ganache chocolate cake, and fried cheesecake beignets are a must. The
wine list was
wonderful-but pricey, as the place is upscale and on the high end in
price. Service is
perfect---of course!!! and Cliff shines.
Dinner at the new Chopsticks was fabulous-they have moved to Belleview
and Yosemite and the
space looks great-and the food is as terrific as ever!!! There are a lot
more servers, real
managers and super terrific food. We had dumplings and lettuce wraps
first. Then we had walnut
prawns, 3 cup chicken, Peking duck, and sizzling black pepper beef-add
brown and white rice and
we were delighted-and very full. It is great.
We had so many calls—and guests who came on air to rave about the
smashburgers and all!!! And
their favorites-don’t forget you can get a fried egg on any too!!!
Gwynne called about McCormick’s Oyster Bar and the fresh crab legs, petrole sole, sweet potato
casserole and chocolate dessert-and how great it all was.
Aurora Summit will be open for Thanksgiving.
Kathy had a long list—Samba Room and small bites and how great they
are-see them on Nov 11 on
Channel 7 on my TV segment-Red Tango-great latin American, House-the new
great spot on 43rd and
Tennyson—so good- amd India’s Pearl for fabulous food and a fabulous
wine list too—then the
great fun dinner at Annie’s Café last week where we had breakfast for
dinner—and finally a
great dinner at Chopsticks on Belleview and Yosemite in their new
location.
Tom had been to Smashburger when we arrived and thought it the best-he
wanted to know about the
meat-it is never frozen Angus chuck-perfect in fat content for burgers.
We talked about the great promotion at Phone Gear in the Cherry Creek
Mall with Avi-say Gabby
and get 2 for one—even the blue tooths-till the end of October.
Peggy from Annie’s Café called to thank all for coming on last Monday to
the dinner.
We talked about locations of all the Smashburgers and things to come.
REMEMBER THE NEW GABBY GOURMET RESTAURANT GUIDE 2010 IS HERE-GET YOURS

THANKS FOR ALL
