Restaurant Show on Saturday,
January 2, 2010
This week's PLAYBACK
Part 1:
Here’s the Scoop from the Gabby
Gourmet Restaurant Show on
Saturday, January 2, 2010.
This is the first Saturday of
2010, a new decade again and we
are starting a great year.
My guests were Tyler and Jen
Wiard of Elway’s Cherry Creek.
The question of the day—how many
10 oz. prime strip steaks will
Elway’s Cherry Creek order for
restaurant weeks-there are 2
this year----5,280
We talked about Elway’s-the
menu, everything prime, the fun,
the brunch, lunch and
dinners-the great dishes
And THE GABBY GOURMET DINNER
THIS TUESDAY!!!!
We talked about Pho 79 on Havana
and Mississippi-Tyler’s
favorite-and Thai Lotus for Pho
on Belleview-Alan Katz
recommends
And then the Pho and everything
else at Parallel Seventeen on
17th and Franklin-it rocks too.
We went to Shells and Sauce for
dinner and it was great—and
mobbed. We had the great wine
and bread that is the best and
then Caesar salads and beef
barley soup for starters. Then
we had the lasagna, the linguini
with clams, and the chicken
parmesan. Tiramisu ended the
great meal-with super service
and so much fun.
BOA was a great choice for
Sunday night—or any night!!!
This spot is so great-super wine
prices for really good wines,
super service, and the
best—super food. There is the
Asian side and the Mexican side
and we always go for Mexican. It
is totally fresh, prepared daily
and so good—and done in a
healthy way too. We had the
smothered burrito with the green
chile—the open burrito with the
hot red chile—and the smothered
chimichanga in combo Asian and
Mexican style—they are
fabulous-the sides
incredible-beans, squash with
corn, vermicelli, rice, so many
choices here too. The
presentations are gorgeous- the
tastes better-and prices so
affordable.
We went to Le Chateau as we had
heard so much about the $18 prix
fixe pre theater dinner. It was
unbelievable!!! First the breads
are fabulous. Then we had a
choice of soup or salad-the
choices for soup were mushroom
or squash and they were beyond
awesome. Then the entrée choices
were the fabulous vegetable pot
pie, the divine grouper with
thai rice and curry and the
crispy chicken with mashed
potatoes and mushrooms-and they
were gorgeous to see, generous
in size, and divine. Then
imagine-dessert was the
chocolate cherry soufflé!!! And
parking is complimentary and you
can leave your car to go to
theater—the biggest bargain in
town-you can also do the fondue
or go to Prime Steakhouse and
enjoy a 3 course meal there!!!!
And the wines by glass with
great red wines were 6 and 7
dollars.
My friend brought lunch for
Fisher Clark Deli and the
sandwiches were terrific-we had
the grilled veggie sandwich and
the tuna salad sandwich-the
breads were great-and fillings
too. And so were the cookies
that came with.
We went over to Annie’s Café for
dinner-and the problem is what
to order as there are so many
choices!!! We ended up with some
great dishes-fried coconut
shrimp and chips, the egg salad
and bacon sandwich, the tuna
melt, and the hot turkey open
sandwich with mashed potatoes
and gravy—and we ended with
pumpkin pie-a la mode!!! Service
is great and the place is family
perfect-or anyone.
TV on Channel 7 on Wed. on the
11am news was great—the places
were fabulous---Fruition, Root
Down, Venice, Table 6, Steve’s
Snappin Dogs. This Wednesday we
are doing steakhouses for stock
show!!!!
Marco’s Coal Fired Pizza was
hot!!! With customers, all
having a great time-with great
pizza, super service,nice wines
and wow!! We had the chicken
wings of course with onions and
bread and a super divine chop
salad. Then we had a truffle
pizza with prosciutto, the
compana and the best chicken
pannini ever on the pizza dough
bread—it was outrageous. And so
was the tiramisu and the wine
too. A great night happens at
Marco’s.
New Year’s Eve was at Strings
–our tradition and favorite for
the big celebration. The place
looked great, the food, wine,
and service were outstanding.
The J Vineyard Pinot Noir
special was fabulous—so was
everything else. We had the warm
rolls, and then the mushroom
soup with quail egg, the foie
gras, and the prosciutto-white
asparagus salad for our first
course. We all picked the
fusilli with crab for our next
course. Entees were chose were
the lobster tail with risotto
and the sea bass with
parsnips-they were fabulous and
there was lamb, duck, and many
more options as well. Dessert
was baked Alaska-yum—and several
other choices. It was a perfect
night and great ending to 2009.
Venice was open on New Year’s
Day and we had a spectacular
dinner there. We had the great
bread and then divine lentil
soup and the prosciutto,
burrito, tomato and greens
salads. Entrees were pomodoro,
red trout, and veal rack—and
wow!!! Describes them all and
the gelato for dessert-and the
wine-and Pacco and his perfect
service-and Mario the perfect
host. What a treat!!!
We talked about Pizza Republica
In Landmark-and Yanni’s opening
there too
They said the pizza was great.
Darlene adores Elway’s –they go
every Friday for a meetings-and
she had a fabulous dinner at
Prime Steakhouse.
Lydia wants the prime rib at
Elway’s. she is going tomorrow.
Connie had a lovely meal at
Strings. Wants more bread in
restaurants.
Derrick wanted pizza for his
family before a game—we talked
about Osteria Marco and Marco’s
Coal Fired Pizza-sooo good-both
and the chicken wings at
Marco’s.
Barbara wants the best steak in
Denver is trying Elway’s
Dana went to Merle’s. and Lola’s
Sugar Rush in Littleton.
Liz is taking two girls to a
play-Bistro Vendome was our
answer for party dresses and fun
in late morning.
Susan had a fabulous dinner at
Solera.
Diane went to P.F. Changs and
enjoyed it.
We talked about Hutch and Spoon
and Mangiamo Pronto—and then
about Columbine Steakhouse too.
We were out of time-and had lots
of fun.
Thanks for listening and
calling.
