Restaurant Show on Saturday, October 10, 2009
This week's PLAYBACK
Part 1:
Part 2:
We were on remote at the
Residences of Little Nell-the new
amazing condos near the hotel. Yes, we were in Aspen. And the John
Denver Reunion Concert was our other excuse to be there. The
weather is absolutely beautiful - 60 degrees and sunny - unlike Denver
today.
We are expecting all sorts of great guests—Jim
Salestrom-with his guitar-of the
John Denver Reunion concert-and he is the great gentleman who played at
Give Paws last year-the owner of the new
Elevation,
Tommy, Shawn Gallus
of
Matsuhisa
who came to Denver to
Elway’s
for our shoshu dinner,
Barbara Piper
of the Residences of Little Nell—and not sure who else!

Dinner at
Tables
was divine-the place was beyond mobbed!!!! And everyone was very
happy-for good reason. The place is casual, friendly and warm and the
food, wine and service shine. The food is just plain wonderful---we had
breads, an the spinach, fig, prosciutto salad with gorgonzola croutons
and the beet salad and both were incredible. So were the entrée choices
---duck with cherry bread pudding, steak with wild mushrooms and mashed
potatoes and crispy chicken with bacon, apple, potatoes. We passed
dessert as we were really full---but oh so good.
Another great brunch at
Strings
on Sunday. We went early as we were going to a movie—ate at the bar with
Kris-always a treat for me. We had pancakes, poached eggs, nova and
scrambled eggs and blueberry pancakes-all so very good—and such fun.
Red Tango
is now open on Sunday nights and we went out there. It is so terrific
and was as usual!!! It is so good, great service and terrific food and
wine. We started with empanadas of cheese and meat and the ceviche and
they were wonderful. Then we enjoyed the great bread and salads that
accompany the dinners. Entrees were seafood pasta, the best pork chop, a
divine eggplant with cheese dish and the combo of enchilada, rellenos
and avocado taco. Dessert was tiramisu. It is a very special treat.
We went to the new
Mamma Mia Trattoria
in Westminster and what a treat. This is just what a trattoria should be
and like being in Italy. Emilio and Mario are great, charming, and very
talented. And the food and wine and service were fabulous. The wines are
great and very affordable. The food-super divine-we had homemade
focaccia, the pizza that was great and with divine cheese too, and a
housemade mozzarella (yum), with tomatoes, fried zucchini and balsamic
reduction. Then we had meat lasagna, vegetarian lasagna with cheese and
spinach, rigatoni marsala, and chicken with fried artichokes, zucchini,
eggplant and cheese. All were so good. And then decadent tiramisu and
cannoli for dessert were a perfect ending. With great prices, huge
portions and great food, this is one terrific little spot.
We went to
Elway’s Downtown
for lunch. The food was excellent, service just great. And it is fun-you
can arrive casual and they have complimentary valet parking too. There
was a new item of salad-small not oversize of Caesar, house or wedge and
then beef, salmon or shrimp. We all had these and all were great. The
warm breads and rolls were divine as well. Will go back anytime. The
gyros sounded great too but ran out of things that we could eat.
TV on Wednesday was fabulous with the most fabulous array of tea and
food from 5 great tea places—try loose leaf divine tea and coffee is no
more!!!! We visited several-go to TV appearance and see for yourself.
Next Wednesday we are doing super brunches!!!
Dinner at
House
was great. House replaces Gemelli in the Berkley neighborhood on 43rd
and Tennyson. The house is a delight in design, warm and friendly and
now the food matches the décor as it is delicious, fun and perfect for
the setting. It is American easy eating and so good and fun. We started
with pork apple satay, shrimp cakes, divine sweet and spicy corn cakes,
wontons, and gooey yummy mac and cheese. Then we had turkey pot pie, the
best grilled pork tenderloin and peach entrée salad, vegetarian lasagna
and divine thin crust salmon and crème frâiche pizza. Desserts are
outrageous with apple crumb pie a la mode, peach cobbler, lemon bars and
brownies. The wine list was great too. All the prices are very
reasonable, portions very generous, and service great. Owners Chris and
Dave are delightful and know how to make this place a success.
A meeting at
Annie’s Café
was a great place for lunch/brunch for both of us. We had the poached
eggs and pancakes and the omelette with all sorts of goodies, hash
browns and toast. What fun to have anything you want for lunch!
Venue
was great for dinner. Our food, wine and service were excellent. We had
an amuse of sweetbreads with lentils and delicious bread. Then we had
the best heirloom tomato salad, the house salad with grapes for our next
course. Entrees were quail, shrimp and grits, walleye, and pork and all
were perfect. So was the chocolate pudding for dessert. Our server was
great too.
