MONICA’S BEST OF DENVER FOR DECEMBER 2009

Here are my recommendations for the month:

The Jonagold apples from Forte Farms (available at farmer’s markets) are amazing. You might want to make yourself a note for next fall! They’re the perfect combination of tart and sweet.

At The Oceanaire Seafood Room (downtown, www.theoceanaire.com), the Macadamia Nut Crusted Hawaiian Opah with Green Curry-Coconut Broth is exceptional. Also, new on their dessert menu is Warm Cookies and Milk. It’s the best rendition I’ve had in all the restaurants that are doing warm cookies and milk these days.

The Orange Chocolate Chip Scones at The Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse (www.BoulderTeahouse.com) are nothing short of fantastic. They’re available on their rotating schedule of scones.

The baby back ribs from Rib City (Littleton and Arvada, www.ribcity.com) are great with a nice grilled flavor.

If you’re looking for a coffee cake to go, try the Berry Blast Breakfast Cake available in the bakery department at Costco. It is truly wonderful.

Big Papa’s BBQ (Evans and Monaco, Ken Caryl, and coming soon to South Federal, www.bbqdenver.com) is doing Hickory Smoked Hams for the holidays or with 48 hours notice. I ordered one for pick-up, hot from the smoker. It was outstanding -- smoky, tender and moist. It’s undoubtedly the best ham I’ve ever had. I highly recommend one for a holiday or any other time.

Until next month, happy eating!
