The Egg & I Restaurant:

How can you set the pace and attitude of your day? By eating a well-balanced nutritious and flavorful breakfast of course. On August 7th, 2010, my breakfast was both of the latter, with the addition of being amongst genuine and hospitable people.

Located on Leetsdale & Holly, I was invited by my new friend Lauren Gale for a morning brunch meet. The host, she was very nice and greeted us within the first 5 seconds we entered (always a good rule of thumb when dining out to notice.) As our waitress seated us to an open table, I glanced around the restaurant and everyone seemed to be happy and enjoying themselves. Soon after skimming the menu, I can see why everyone was happy.

The waitress asked for our beverage orders, Lauren let me in on a tip that became our first choice of the meal. The house blended hazelnut coffee. A popular menu item with a beautiful aroma of roasted hazelnuts, I consciously appreciated and respected the flavor adding little creamer and sugar. Slaking my thirst of great coffee, I was quite pleased and jokingly asked for a pot of the coffee to go.

After a variety of topic conversations and more reading over the menu, it was time for the entrée order. Lauren ordered the Berry-Ola Oatmeal; hot oatmeal garnished wit raspberries, blueberries and crunchy granola accompanied with brown sugar, golden raisins, a mélange of fresh fruit and a choice of an English muffin or toast on the side. Although I did not taste her dish, come on, we all know that looks healthy and delicious (plus she told me it was great.)

I ordered the Colorado Jack Scramble; scrambled eggs topped with diced ham, diced tomatoes, green peppers, garnished with melted pepper jack cheese and green onions (scallions). On the side is a pork green chili, an English muffin cut in half and two sausage patties.

More table talk and another cup of hazelnut coffee later, in a dramatic visionary bubble thought; the red curtains slowly opened and the food made its highly anticipated arrival.

Just like the arcade game, where you maneuver the claw in the right direction (in this case it is my fork) in hopes of grabbing exactly what you want is exactly what I did. Grabbing the perfectly cooked and delicate eggs who seemed to be very thoughtful bringing friends like the tomatoes, green peppers, onions, ham and lastly the pepper jack cheese; stretching trying to catch up with the fork of course. It all flowed together effortlessly, the mild heat from the green peppers, green onions and pepper jack cheese; the sweetness from the tomatoes and the simple, delicious flavor from the ham. What could make it better? Adding some of the green pork chili, that’s what! Although I ate the English muffin and sausages separately, if you like to play with your food, try making a sausage and egg sandwich with the English muffin. I promise, eating with your hands is totally fine and you won’t make a big mess everywhere.

All in all, the service was great, the food was amazing and the prices will not cause any harm to your pocket.

As some added bonuses: The Egg & I is currently in 2nd place for Channel 7’s A-List Best Breakfast award! If you have eaten here and know exactly why I love the food the way I did, please cast your vote here at this link (http://kmgh.cityvoter.com/the-egg-and-i-denver/biz/48686). Voting Ends Friday, September 17th, 2010
