24 S. Broadway
Lena (pronounced len-ya) brings new excitement to a very popular street. South Broadway is a hot spot for dining, and Lena rates high on this list with great food from South America. With selections from Mexico to Argentina small plates of divine food are sure to please. The space is fabulous with a bar that covers one side of the inviting room, perfect for dining or gathering. Booths and tables are set throughout the other side with brick walls, wood, huge windows, and fabulous lighting. There is dining upstairs and a special banquet room as on the lower level. It is casual, comfortable, and the place to be. Owner Jimmy Callahan with chef Toby Prout have created a welcoming and charming place. The food is the star. Begin with ceviche offered many ways: octopus, tender and delicious, tuna with orange or shrimp delight. Another feature is a Latin American wood fire grill bringing super flavors to the blood sausage with grilled tomato, the short rib, Korean style, flat and yummy, bison skirt steak, rib eye, a pork chop, shrimp, chicken and even a vegetarian option. The “Claiente” list starts with a potato cake, plantains, empanadas, and tacos. Bison short ribs, sea bass, and pork belly are the toppings for the homemade corn tortillas. Chuck meatballs, seabass, and an awesome chiliquiles with chicken bring more choices while chicken, mushrooms, and divine tamales with pork make decisions impossible. There are sides but do not miss the yucca cheese bread. Also be sure to try the tres leches, bunuelos, flan, and the ice cream sandwich for dessert. The cocktail, wine, and beer list complement the food perfectly. The weekend brunch is special a place to just hang out. With great food and service, reasonable prices, and the most welcoming hosts, Lena is on the list of places to go often. It is addictive.
