Sushi Sasa

Once upon a time beautiful, clean, exquisite restaurants packed people in like sardines, and had those without a reservation or an incomplete party stuck outside waiting, often in the cold, or pummeling each other at the bar. Denver I have news for you! The mouthwatering sushi restaurant Sushi Sasa has expanded!

Sushi Sasa is located in the promising area of the lower highlands. This sushi sanctuary is popular among the local community, yet does not receive all the acclaim it deserves. With the elegant new addition Sushi Sasa is prepared for an abundance of new business. Entering the new addition you are confronted with gorgeous black and white Japanese sliding screens. This gives the feel of intimacy and seclusion from the other side of the restaurant which is more active and energetic. The restaurant is now separated into two different rooms. The entrance is more energetic and brightly colored. Take a right, and you enter into a serene lightly colored room. The difference in atmosphere from one room to the other is incredible.

At my intimate two top my guest and I were able to enjoy conversation even though the room was packed. The tables are perfectly separated as to keep the intimate feeling which was introduced upon entering the room.

Looking over the specials we were surprised and in awe of the monk fish fois gras and had to try it. I was very interested as to what this would taste like as usually fois gras is made of duck or goose liver. To my surprise it was quite similar. I have never tasted any fish that tasted so similar to wild game. The fois gras was complimented with a miso reduction and balsamic demi glaze, along with a sliced strawberry with a small dollop of caviar.

This was the healthier option of our two appetizers. The second was called the dynamite which comprised of bite size tempura battered shrimp and asparagus with a thick layer of spicy aioli covering the top. This mouthwatering combination was by far my favorite dish.
The main course included succulent halibut and fresh crab nigiri, followed by a simple Negi toro roll. I loved the simplicity and freshness of this roll. It was rolled with the rice on the inside with toro, which is a fatty bluefin tuna, and scallions. The rice was not of an overwhelming proportion as you see at many sushi restaurants which try to hide the amount of fish inside the roll. It was a perfect combination.

Overall the quality of the fish was of the greatest standards. The atmosphere, service, and food created a noteworthy evening. I will definitely be returning soon!
