Part 2:
Here’s the Scoop from the Gabby Gourmet Restaurant Show on Saturday, June 11 ,2011.
We are at Steuben’s—17th and Pearl—but to talk about Share our Strength –the event on June 9. It will be at Mile High Station from 7pm-9pm for general admission and 5:30pm-9pm for VIP.
On the way home from Aspen we went to Silver Plume—they are open again and the tearoom is a riot-and such fun-today’s special is chicken pot pie---and we had chicken salad, homemade breads, quiche, pies—yum---and tea—and fun—oops-forgot cookies.
We went to Shells and Sauce—welcome home with a friend and time to catch up at the bar—our favorite spot-we had salmon, chicken, and seafood pasta-and the great breard and terrific tiramisu—did I forget the wines-fabulous.
Houston’s is now Hillstone but retains the same décor and food. We had a great dinner –super service-and great food. We had sushi, the fried shrimp, chicken salad, and chicken sandwich and their tortilla chips---everything was very generous in portion and very good.
Satchel’s on 6th is a new favorite around town=and for good reason. It is just fun and casual and a great bar with small plates-wine bar that is. We had great wines by the glass and fabulous mussels with the best bread and a terrific cheese platter with breads to start. Then everyone at the table-except me—had the Dover sole and I had the asparagus with ham and egg—divine. Desserts were chocolate mousse and strawberry short cake their way- a treat.
We had lunch at the bar at D-Bar and it was great-of course!!! We had the blta with salad-best salad dressing-and the mac and cheese—and the grilled Caesar-and then some chocolate brownie square with ice cream with coffee and not sure what else-but damn it was amazing.
We went to see the redone Deluxe. The exposed brick wall has a fun mural of advertising a school-fun to see-wood floors and the new scene is basically set---and a much nicer entry. We had a great time and food was excellent. We had the new Mason jar full of “stuff”-changes all the time and was delicious—potatoes, poached eggs, bacon, and more mixed together and served with super pizza dough bread. We also had a terrific beet Carpaccio with cheese and artichoke to start. Entrees were bouillabaisse, pork chop with fries, and half chicken—all were excellent. And a nice glass of wine to go with. And the mocha pot de crème was divine. Our waitress, Amy, was adorable-and great.
Very late and very hungry we stopped by Lark Burger on the way home—no one really beats them—they are great-super service-we had the ahi burger, the turkey burger, and the divine truffle fries-better than aspen!!!!! And so much cheaper/
Root Down remains heavenly and the best---the patio is spectacular, the place mobbed, and the service great—wines are terrific---and the food—the best. We had carrot curry soup, the marinated veggie salad that is amazing, the mussels,. The arepas, the risotto, and the veggie and duck sliders and sweet potato fries—all are perfect---and sow were the new desserts of chocolate with marshmallows and cobbler with lemongrass sorbet—everything is just plain wonderful.
I had to go to the Wooden Spoon after all the raves and word of mouth. And all those people were right. One room, not big, charming, and the best breakfast sandwich, lunch sandwiches and salad, coffee and tea---and desserts that are amazing. We had the turkey-homemade roasted daily with tomato, arugula cheese, and the BLT that is outrageous. They come with super slaw or chips. And the egg sandwich is a must for breakfast-and the desserts are totally to die for—we had the lemon meringue tart and the twitter chocolate-but muffins, brownies, cookies, tarts, squares, on and on-mini cupcakes-and they cater with cakes and more. Great people, super prices, and great food make this a reason to return.
We went to Bittersweet and it was totally sweet----the place looks great-the patio is fabulous-and the rose wine is divine—as are the others. We had Christina wait on us again-my request when we go there. She is the best. We had the new menu with great rolls, gazpacho like you never had and the chorizo that was amazing too. Then we had the new salmon, boar, and halibut. All were divine. And so were the chocolate tasting and the coffee ice cream. What a treat.
