Here’s the Scoop from the Gabby Gourmet Restaurant Show on Saturday, June18, 2011.
We were at Aspen Food and Wine Festival for the umpteenth year and what fun.
We broadcast from the press room at the St. Regis Hotel. It is all tradition.
Update from the Rose tasting at Elway’s last week. These are the wining roses and are available at Elway’s Cherry Creek in a flight or by the glass.
These actually were my favorites-wow!!!
The 3 wines that were added to wine list as a flight and individually are:
CHATEAU SOUCHERE, Rose de Loire, Cabernet Franc, Loire Valley, France
KRACHER, Illmitz, Zweigelt, Austria
ETUDE, Pinot Noir, Carneros, California
The flight is 9.00 for a taste of all three.
The wines are 9.00 per glass individually
We had a divine-heavenly—dinner at the bar at Barolo Grill. It’s the place to be if you can snag a seat. Sian and Ryan took care of us-royally-and a bit of kibitz from Blair Taylor too. The wines were amazing and so is the bread. Then we had an amuse, then soft shell crab, bacala, a fabulous romaine Caesar salad, a salad of arugula, pears, candied hazelnuts and more. And then we had the ravioli—an English pea ravioli with ricotta and egg yolk-and the mushrooms tagliatelle-both are outrageous. The entrees of halibut and guinea hen were beyond outrageous. And then we had a strawberry tart with chocolate and a white and dark chocolate torte. It was perfect.
We stopped by the Egg and I on Leetsdale and had a delightful breakfast-and the company of Ed Novak—we both had omelets but different ones-they are huge with toast or muffin, and fruit and salsa and more.
Dinner at Bistro Vendome was just fabulous. First the patio-so beautiful, serene, hidden in the back, friendly and divine is the place to be in the summer. Our wine, food, and service were perfect. We had French bread in a bag, an amuse of tomato asparagus soup that was amazing, and then delicious frog legs with artichokes and the salad with greens, fried egg and bacon to start. Then we had crepes, mussels, my favorite the amazing trout, and another favorite of roast chicken with cauliflower in a copper pot. Desserts were an amazing tart tatin, and sorbet-and coffee—and again, a super fun rose. It is a real treat here.
We went to Argyll for lunch and loved the patio—no sun!!! and perfect weather. We had the mussels and the grilled salmon sandwich that comes with couscous-the mussels come with fries---and we all get great potato chips with malt on them. It was fun.
We went to Row 14 for dinner. The place is super looking-we had really super service too. We had the burrata panzanella salad, the compressed Crenshaw fruit salad and then the lamb cigars, duck crepes, salmon, and sea bass. Then the dessert was lemon tart.
The Gabby dinner at Street Kitchen had to be one of the top dinners ever. It was amazing and incredible. The food, drinks, service, and each detail is so Mary-where perfection reigns in everything she does.
We started with dim sum, vegetable tempura, and STK crab Rangoons with chilled pear sake. Then came All sorts of divine sushi with hot sake. The next course was a marvelous salad with sesame vinaigrette and a blushing Geisha cocktail. The noodles were amazing: char key teow, Pad Thai and Singapore noodles with a divine rose. More still with miso glazed beef short ribs,. Thai roasted chicken, black bean veggie stir fry and STK fried rice with cabernet. End with Melaka, banana fritters, mango sticky rice and Vietnamese coffee crème caramel and Asian eyes dessert cocktail. WOWWY-WONDERFUL-DIVINE-WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE THIS NIghT.
The Hot Rocks Grill event at Elway’s Cherry Creek was awesome. The 14 grills and chefs were so terrific and each dish was oh so good. And the fans had a ball-food, wines and drinks-and the VIP tent was awesome too. It was one great event. Congratulations to them.
We stayed for dinner to celebrate our anniversary and had a divine time. We had a glass of the winning rose and then we shared Caesar salads and tuna tartar. Entrees were lots of salmons, a crab, and a chicken-and fries and potato chips too. And the desserts were everywhere-the chocolate cake, twinkie, chocolate chip cookies, crème brûlée, fruit and key lime pie. Awesome night and even the valets are awesome.
