Restaurant Show on Saturday, May 14, 2011

Part 1:

Part 2:

Here’s the Scoop from the Gabby Gourmet Restaurant Show on Saturday, May14, 2011.

We were at the Young People’s Bank on 1st and Monroe.

They were having a lemonade recipe contest—a preview for the big event on May 22nd where kids can register and get a backpack and have a lemonade stand at their house and make money.

My guests were Tyler Wiard of Elway’s Cherry Creek, Steve Snappin’ Dog (E. Colfax and Madison) and the judges: Tyler Wiard, Penny Parker, Lori Midson, Nancy Levine, Terry Vitale, and a student on the bank board. Nigel Alexander, the gentleman who put the entire event together was a great guest as well.

We interviewed the winner, a darling 8 year old.

We did not have a question of the day but gave away 2 tickets to a tour from Culinary Collectors where the winner will take a restaurant tour. Good for them.

ASPEN—our weekend will be here soon. FYI on Friday, we are going to BB’s Kitchen. We were told it is a must—if you make reservations-ask for Anthony or Fisk-tell them Gabby sent you---we will be there-have not been yet either but it should be fun as all of you are always wanting a spot.
The date we are going to dinner is May 27-Friday night before the big Saturday when we broadcast and have the amazing dinner at Montagna.

NEXT WEEK
A CHARITY EVENT GRAPES & PAWS
4640 Pecos

We went to Strings for a birthday party and it was a great night of food and celebration. Service is always perfect and was. The wines were great and Kris got a new Torrontes-yay!!---we started with great bread and the brie and carrot salad and the spinach beet salad. Then we had the new chicken and it is great, quail, salmon, and open faced ravioli-another real winning dish. Dessert was several orders of chocolate mousse cake and a crème brûlée. It was super.

Today, Mother’s Day, I always go to volunteer at Strings for I Remember Mama when Noel and staff do breakfast-really almost dinner-for 200 moms without a place to go-transportation is provided, the ladies are gorgeous=hats the thing-and food and service the best. It is a great treat to be part of it.
Then we stayed for brunch and it was great---the patio was perfect. We had lots of Fireman’s eggs, Gabby’s curry chicken salad, crab cakes Benedict, and the smoked salmon salad. It was a great day.

Then off to buy Katie Cat new food! I WAS LUCKY. Several great listeners told me about the proper diet for Katie---had no idea—so off I went and met more listeners who all had the same instructions. Guess that makes me an expert-not-but a great follower of advice.

Mother’s Day means special treats-and that is the bar at Shells and Sauce. We went there and Connell was taking care of us—the best. We had great wine, and super dinners of vongole, salmon, and lasagna. Love that place and how super they are all the time.

The wine dinner-Women and wine—at Elway’s Cherry Creek was beyond fantastic. Jimena-Alamos Wines from Argentina is incredible, and so are their wines. Aniedra was top chef and proved women rock with a great menu to complement the food. We had scallops with grapefruit and my favorite wine, Torrentes. Then we had amazing arctic char with fennel and chardonnay. The entrée of tenderloin with potato strudel was served with the best Malbec. And cherry empanadas with chocolate came with a great cabernet sauvignon. It was very special and wonderful.

We were at a lunch meeting at Strings and as usual, it was great-food and service. We had lots of salads-one great one with salmon, and the Caesar—and the lobster roll-such a great choice. And always a big treat.

The Gabby dinner at Lifestyle Catering at Willow Ridge was one of the best ever.
Gregory and Lawrence did the most amazing job and presentation. The place is gorgeous, the set up so perfect with stations around the charming room and lots of seating. Service was incredible. There were passed apps as well as a station with apps, cheeses, and breads. The were stations for a marvelous Caesar salad, chicken with sun dried tomatoes, pastas, and osso bucco. And the dessert display was wow!!! Each station had selections of excellent wines to match the dish—or pick what you like and enjoy. No detail was overlooked and each and every guest was thrilled—and there was great live music too. What a fabulous affair---have you party, meeting, wedding there and be oh so happy.

TV on Wednesday with Hamburgers was great!! They all looked so great. We had Hella burger, Alehouse at Amato, Tarbel’s, Waterloo, and Highland Tap & Burger---oh so good.

Dinner at Parallel Seventeen was amazing. We were with my boss of A Taste of Colorado and Parallel Seventeen is gonna be part of Fine Dining. We had a lot of fabulous food—as always. We had the divine calamari, and lobster potstickers. Then we had the crepe (my favorite), the pork sliders (my favorite), the short rib, the curry, and the monkfish—guess they all are. The new wine list is amazing with my favorite Torrentes at the most reasonable price and so good. Desserts---chocolate 4 ways, key lime tart, and donuts-really beignets-that are also so addictive it is scary. No matter how full you are, you just keep eating. It is so good.

We drove up to Boulder to got o Pizzeria Locale—and it was oh so worth it. The place is great looking-owned by Frasca and next door. The wines were great-and affordable—and the food-wow---we had the arugula salad with parm-divine and mini Swedish meatballs for apps that were great. Then we had the best pizzas-cheese with anchovy and capers and cheese with arugula and prosciutto—great crust, great pie. And then the best butterscotch pudding and yummy lemon meringue tart for dessert. The guys behind the bar are super-yes we ate at the pizza bar—and service was outstanding too.

We had lunch at Annie’s Café and enjoyed burritos with green chile and egg salad sandwiches.

Bittersweet is just the best—one of the top places in town!!!! It looks great and is very comfortable-and the food and service are divine. The wines were super, our server, Christina, the best—and the food was awesome. Start with the homemade rolls-worth the trip!!!! Then we had the frisee salad with smoked salmon and poached egg, the bouillabaisse with grilled cheese sandwich, and the Alsatian tart with veggies for starters-they were amazing. The veal rib eye was unbelievable with risotto, the barramundi amazing, and the salmon the biggest winner ever. Then we ended with rhubarb strawberry tart with rhubarb sorbet and coffee ice cream for dessert. It was perfect. The crowd loved it and everyone was so happy. And the new baby-Melissa and Olav’s-Brody is a doll too. Welcome to the world little man and may everything be good for you.

Barrett called as he is a vendor to discuss how the lemonade stands do not get in trouble with the city. Nigel explained that the city is totally behind the event and supporting all.
Kids are encouraged to go to King Soopers, the website, etc and register to have a stand on May 22—and make this a huge, great event.

Kathy called about the great idea of lemonade stands and the fabulous Gabby dinner at Lifestyle Catering-and it was.

Doris went to a new Greek restaurant in Ft. Collins called Taverna Greek Grill-they dance, eat, shout opah and have fun.

Patrick had a great dinner at Meritage. He also went to Hideaway Steakhouse and loved it. We talked about Que Bueno! Being another great choice in Westminster. And it is one of our upcoming Gabby dinners.

Linda wanted Ethiopian restaurants. We talked about Nile and Arada.

Marg called about the Grapes and Paws next week-and a time to meet my wine guys too at the event.

Diane adored the dinner at Lifestyle Catering-another fan for good reason.
Penny talked about her column tomorrow in the Post, about Houston changing the name to Hillstone, and we all talked about upcoming dinners at Elway’s.

Lee Clayton Roper stopped by and talked about her book, A Well Seasoned Kitchen—it is a great book—recipes that one really would make!!!!

The Big Fat Cupcake Truck came by and brought cupcakes to all as well.

We were way out of time.

Thank you for calling and listening.

On TV this Wednesday, tune in for places around the ball park.

We hope to see you next week at Grapes and Paws.
