Restaurant Show on Saturday, April 23, 2011

Part 1:

Part 2:

Here’s the Scoop from the Gabby Gourmet Restaurant Show on Saturday April 23, 2011.

We were at the Shops at Vallagio—Restaurant Row----on the patio between Marco’s and Russo’s.

My guests were Brian Laird of Russo’s, Mary Nguyen of Street Kitchen Asian Bistro, and Ron Bryant and Chris Cassan of HellaBurger in the airstream. Remember, Marco’s Coal Fired Pizza( here-and in LoDo)—on May 16 (Vallagio), and May 17-LoDo, he is hosting a special night with pizza genius from Italy in town to show all-and then they are hosting a fabulous dinner. Call for details-and reservations.

NEXT WEEK: We are at Fleur Bistro on 12th and Logan---come by and say hi
The folks from the restaurant will be there—and the people from the Food Truck Warriors will tell us about an event going on that night.

We went to Street Kitchen Asian Bistro for dinner—and adored it. We had way too much food—and great wine---but loved every bite. We started with sweet potato fries and dipping sauce, crab cakes, and the great pancake. ---and crab ragoon. Then we had the beef ribs, the pork ribs, the fried rice with egg, and the Singapore noodles. And yes, we had the coffee chocolate flan for dessert. Service is amazing too-Aaron was our server-great.

The Disco brunch at Corner Office was great fun---lots of people arrived in costume and lots of food. There was a special disco brunch tasting for media—and way too much food—but here you go---some items served-homemade biscuits and honey butter, fried chicken and waffles, crepes with fried avocado, hot dogs, square Texas toast cheeseburgers, French toast with strawberries and nutella, polenta and marinara with onion topped with eggs, and many other choices that complement the fun and funky atmosphere. Even Avocado ice cream! Lots of champagne and bloody Mary’s too. They gave prizes for the best costumes as well---think the brunch—not the prize—happens each week.

We went to Shells and Sauce for dinner with friends—thanks Brady the bartender for the selections of fabulous red and white wines!!!!! Always worth the trip to see Andrew and Brady-then we had the fabulous bread and dip and we all had a the Caesar salad—then we had lasagna, the salmon, the vongole, and the penne special with seafood-and all were fabulous—we ended with tiramisu and were all delighted and thrilled with the night and dinner. AND SHELLS AND SAUCE WILL BE OPEN FOR EASTER-BRUNCH AND DINNER-WTH REGULAR MENU AND SPECIALS AS WELL. WE WILL BE THERE.

There was a fabulous and different event on Monday at noon---at Carson Elementary School, Eliana Goldberg won a contest with an essay about wanting to be a chef—Mary of Street Kitchen and Parallel seventeen volunteered as her mentor—together they did a fabulous meal and they-along with classmates—had a luncheon. It was great-some of the classmates were servers-they were terrific—and the food was super and it was some wonderful fun and a great experience. Thanks to Mary and to the school for promoting such events and happenings.

Then we stopped at Strings---as Michael Bortz delivered my Passover cake there-and we had a great lunch at the bar. We both had the Gabby’s chicken salad sandwiches-with our choice of cucumber salad as our side. And then home to get ready for Passover.

Michael Bortz—City Bakery—the best chocolate cake in the world!!!!!

The second Seder at Strings was fabulous. Noel and staff did a fabulous job, and we were fortunate to have Rabbi Steve Foster conduct the service-done in the style for kids—the entire evening was a wonderful experience.

TV brought places for Easter-with hotels being the feature. We had the Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton, Warwick, and Westin Westminster. Watch the segment under TV Appearances.

We went to Elway’s Downtown to the bar for dinner-and wow~such fun. We had the divine ribs-best anywhere, the incredible shrimp cocktail, sushi, tuna tataki, cherry Creek Salad, Brussels sprouts, and mac and cheese-and a chocolate lollypop—it was super, wines great, service amazing—this is one great place—and complimentary valet too.

Dinner at Strings was so great-Dan waited on us-he is super-so are Patrick and Jason—and all the rest. But to have people who care is so great----we had super wines from Kris and then Caesar salads and gazpacho. Entrees were tuna, liver, and lamb from the new menu and all were so divine. The coconut cream pie for dessert is a must.

We went to D-Bar Desserts for lunch—what a treat-and what a scene. It is mobbed-always—with happy people. They should be eating great food and divine desserts and wine, beer, and some damn good tea too. We had the tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwich and the blact—sandwich with the best salad and dressing---we passed dessert-not sure why but we were really full. It will be open on Monday again-and then every day, after May 16!!!! Yeah---

We went to the new Satchel’s on 6th and Gilpin…. fabulous!. It is as great as before—only much better looking with a fun focal bar, super seating, still small, and great food with a more focused on small plates with great prices---and lots of wine too. On weekends, they will open bottles and sell it by the glass-that is super and a treat as some of my favorite wines are on the bottle list—although the by the glass list is super too. Andrew is amazing—the owner---and Chad the sommelier and Jare, the chef, are fabulous too. We had truffled popcorn-several orders and adored it—do not like truffle oil at all and this is not like it at all. Then we had the wedge and the asparagus’ with poached egg and ham for appetizers. Several of us had the sole and then the short rib meatloaf-both were great. Sitting in my refrigerator is the strawberry short cake which we could not eat…. cuz we were way too full! Congrats to them-great food, service, wine, and fun in a super spot.
