The place is very special, and Charles Dale, the most awesome chef and each time we go, there is a special dinner with guests having choices from the entire menu and then Charles and staff pair wines with each dish of each person.

THE SCOOP FOR THE WEEK

We went to the new Hideaway on 112th and a first in upscale steakhouse dining in the area. Christopher Cina is the executive chef, the place is really pretty-and you can read about it on our feature homepage on www.gabbygourmet.com
We had some really nice wines, priced nicely. Warm bread arrives and then we shared the lobster tacos, onion soup and wedge salad. Steaks come with house salad and a side and a sauce- the Strip was great-and the filet nice too. One person had the chicken. All were very good and we had different sides—carrots, spinach, and yummy potatoes. Dessert was tiramisu. Make a reservation as it is new and busy and fun.

We had a family brunch-breakfast-at Strings. We had many different dishes: ham Benedict, steak and eggs Benedict, crepes, omelet, fireman’s eggs and the gabby chicken salad sandwich----lots of good fun and food.

We went to Bistro One with new chef-also owner-Alex. The menu is similar and good. The wine list is great too. We had a super Caesar and great onion soup. Then we had pork, yummy fired chicken, and salmon for entrees. We enjoyed them all-Rachel is an incredible waitress too.

Mel came into town-with Janie—and they hosted a dinner at the now Eggshell-their old place-and it was a real class reunion---all the people who were fans came and we all had a great time.
Tyler of Elway’s and his crew cooked-Solera a bit and they featured the wines sold by Mel. We had the old menu with the great bread-then soup, choice of Caesar or wedge, and then salmon or chicken—the old standbys. Dessert was apple bread pudding. We all had a super time getting together and seeing Mel and Janie and fun.

We went to the Athenian in Aurora for lunch and had a ball. Tom and Angie are great and we had some really super Greek food. We had saganaki, a great Greek salad with chicken, an omelet, and a gyro----and baklava too. They are great and a treat.

Then we went to see Amato Alehouse –it is gorgeous-we did not eat there as it was so busy. So off we went to Gaetano’s for some really fun Italian fare. The homemade bread is great and then the Caesar too. We had salmon, eggplant parmesan, vongole, and the pork chop for entrees. Lots of really good food and total fun. And the wine list is really super with great prices too---and we did have tiramisu as well.

The Gabby Dinner at Elway’s Downtown was beyond incredible!!! The wine, service, food, every detail was perfect—the fans were thrilled as they should be and it cannot get any better. They started with appetizers for all-the best ribs ever, lobster sliders, bruschetta, and more and then rolls, and your choice of soups, Caesar, wedge, or house salads. Then your choice of salmon, lamb chops, steak, chicken and fabulous sides too. And then the chocolate Elvis and a jar full of goodie—great—and super wines throughout. What a treat.

We had a great lunch at Strings---and we all had the special—noel’s turkey sandwich—it is so good-tomato, lettuce, fresh baked turkey, avocado, and more---we loved them.

We went to Frasca for dinner and that was very special as well. First we toured Pizza Locale and the new Caffe—both are gorgeous-and we did get some pizza at Frasca so we could taste it too! The new look at Frasca is gorgeous—and the food and service great again—always perfect. The wines were super and by the glass, the prices were very affordable. We had a fabulous salumi plate-to die for---super bread and the divine tuna tartar for starters. Then we had the marvelous sea bass and pork and pork belly for entrees. We passed dessert but the evening was just perfect.

We went to dinner at Elway’s Cherry Creek—at our table by the bar of course---and loved it and talked to Tyler and we decided we had to do a Cinco de Mayo dinner to show off Tyler’s great southwestern cooking. So we are having a party on May 6—it will be great but very limited in number of people so reserve early.
Back to dinner tonight—it was incredible. We had fabulous wines, super bread and for starters duck confit samosas with great jelly and curry, and then Caesar and onion soup. Entrees were amazing; lamb sliders, chicken, and sea bass-and then Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, risotto, and fries—yum to all. And for dessert key lime pie—and again—the best wines. Read about the dinner under
Gabby dinner and nights-and reserve fast to get your space.

Question of the day: for a PF Chang's Gift Certificate
Knowing that the Per capita wine consumption annually for US 9 liter. What is the Per capita wine consumption in liters in Vatican City?

Ben, Paul, and Rich – THE WINE GUYS, as we like to call them!  Picked Rose as a topic for our conversation about summer wines.
They recommended a couple of really good ones....
Gustav Lorentz winery, Le Rose of pinot noir 2009 $15-$18 Great Alsace Rose
Cline Mourvedre Rose California -Slightly heavier and a little less acidity with heavier fruits

Some facts about Rose…..
Rose comes in clear bottles. Don't leave out in the sunlight because they are in clear bottles and it is a somewhat delicate as it oxidizes quickly
Rose is a wine that is meant to be drank now and young, but there are a few that are meant to be vintage.
Rose has a huge variety of grapes and regions that it is made from,
so taste can vary a great deal.
Great time to drink Rose is when it is warm and Rose is in between a white and a red so it can bridge a lot of different foods because of its higher acidity. In fact, Rose is a great choice for upcoming Easter and Passover Celebrations….matches to all of what you would have ....lamb, ham, turkey.
A fun thing to do for summer is to use Rose to make Sangria if you want something a little lighter.
What is the difference between White Zin and Rose?
White Zin was created by Bob Sutter originally as a Zinfandel that got stuck in the fermentation process and ended up pink and sweet. A happy accident that has sold millions of bottles…... BUT don’t confuse them, as Rose and White Zin are totally different and will like Rose better

What to look for when you go to buy Rose? Get the most current vintage available and it will likely be $15-$18 range European or South American are good choices. Also, look for the Rose that is made from a grape you like....for instance if you love pinot noir.....get a Rose made from that grape.

Ben and Rich love these white wines for summer:
Also, Vino Verde it is Portuguese with a little sparkle but easy to drink in the summer.
Gruner Veltliner- a dry wine but more similar to a dry Riesling
Rich loves Riesling and Gewürztraminer in the summer
Alberinos, Verdejo, Torrentes, and Moscato D’Astini are all great choices too

Reds for summer:
Ben recommends -Pinot Nor, Dolcetto, Valpolicella - good acidity for lighter foods
Rich recommends –Zinfandel wine to go with bbq and grilling.

Gregory and Lawrence of Lifestyles told us all about the upcoming dinner at their place Willow Ridge Manor. It will be a party atmosphere with lots of yummy stations.....great stuff and will be have wine tastings at each station. Just a preview.....Osso Bucco Buffalo, pasta stations, passed appetizers, and much more. Live music too!
