Here’s the Scoop from the Gabby Gourmet Restaurant Show on Saturday, October 2, 2010.
We were at the studio with our own barbecue party. My guests were the brothers from Brothers BBQ-Nick and Chris O’Sullivan.
They have great bbq-and super catering for the games, the holidays, birthdays, and all occasions. And of course, for eating in and carryout as well. But let them do the work and you host the party. The catering is great-call 720-297-7801-and talk to Nick.
Remember Thursday nights-ribs-$1 each, beef ribs-$2 and pork, beef, chicken sliders are $2 from 3 to close.
And the new mac and cheese is great—the new buns perfect and so good—and everything we had was wonderful.
There are ribs, beef ribs, brisket, pork, sausage, chicken, slaw, potatoes, fries, sandwiches
The question of the day: how many people did Brothers BBQ serve at their very first catering-it was for the Major League Baseball League VIP party in 1998—10,000.

We had a fabulous dinner at Shells and Sauce—there is a new chef—Marcus, former chef at the Samba Room. He was great there and terrific here. We had divine wine and then the super bread and Caesar salads. Then we had the sea bass special that was divine, the chicken parmesan, and the vongole. All were perfect as always—the wines and service are great too. We ended with tiramisu and it was the best as well. What a treat—and the outdoor upstairs patio is so very special.
We went to Strings for lunch with the people from Ceylon Pearl tea. We were tasting and having a great time matching teas and fun with the breakfast on October 9th all day Saturday and I am on remote as well. The teas were great-and breakfast is incredible. You order whatever you like—the prices are very reasonable---then Strings will provide the tea for tasting and a fabulous dessert too. Reserve now at 303-831-7310.
We went to Olivea for dinner and it was great. Service is perfect and we had some super wines too. We started with a vegetarian flatbread pizza and watermelon radish crostini that were amazing!!! Then we had the pate, the duck meatballs and the seabass special for entrees and we loved them. Desserts were a fabulous chocolate salt tart with gelato and semifredo with tiny cakes. It was a great night.
The Gabby Dinner at Gallop Café was absolutely great-we all adored it. The place is very small, Glen and Dave the best hosts-and the food and wine and service were perfect. We started with super wines, bread, and divine shrimp dish. Then we had Caesar or gazpacho-both incredible. The pork or chicken entrees were great and the desserts---wow!!! Chocolate bread pudding or sweet potato pecan pie—what a great job-and super treat for all of us.
TV at Channel 7 on Wed on the 11am news was great fun featuring 5 restaurants in Cherry Creek North-and they were all great. We had Piatti, Cucina Colore, Abrusci, Brandon’s Pub, and Argyll—you can watch it by clicking on TV Appearances-next wed we are doing MORE STREET EATS—DON’T MISS IT.
We went to Barolo Grill and it was HEAVENLY---the food, wine, service, and Blair at the door—and Brian in the kitchen-a perfect night. We had an amuse and then foie gras, the squash soufflé, and prosciutto with cantaloupe to start. Then we had scallops with capanata, guinea hen with corn, and the signature duck for entrees-and they were all amazing. Gelato ended the feast—and the wines were incredible too. And not to forget the valet|!!!
We went to Luca d’Italia for dinner. It was great. Food, wine and service were excellent and super—it is pricey. We had a great glass of wine, an amuse and super housemade breads. Then we shared calamari and panzanella salad. Entrees were one entrée of divine halibut, then I had 2 appetizers- a great burrata and tuna carpaccio. The other entrée was the appetizer size of lobster, shrimp lasagna. Dessert was molten chocolate cake with gelato and yummy figs. It was a super evening.
On Friday, Bertha Lynn was inducted into the broadcasting Hall of Fame---and I was lucky enough to attend. She so deserved the honor, and it was wonderful and very touching. Congratulations to her---and watch her, with me, every Wednesday on Channel 7 on the 11 am news. We come on together about 11.30-11.40.—this week we are showing off the food carts-more great street eats in town.
We went to Strings for the new menu!!!! Wow-it is the best ever and so amazing. It is so creative, divine, super combos, and the prices are so right. We had super wines with Kris at the bar—ate there-and had chicken noel nuggets (Joey), the best Brussels sprout salad that was ever, divine squash soup, and a fabulous beet salad to start. Entrees were pappardelle with lobster, bbq chicken with cauliflower, veal chop, and lamb with lentils—they were all unbelievable. Then we had the petit four platter and the new chocolate meringue sandwich—divine too. The new menu is simply the best.
Kathy called about Brothers-she loves it—and a fabulous Gabby dinner at Gallop Café, and an incredible night at Shells and Sauce.
Stu was at Strings and adored it—we talked about the new menu. And he went to Blackhawk and at at Isle of Capri-special snow crab dinner-and a band.
Steve called about catering, rib night and a great meal with the new menu at Strings—he was thrilled with the Brussels Sprouts salad, soup, and lamb.
We had several calls-and some from Michigan---about Brothers-the links, the Brothers sandwich with pulled pork, links, slaw, sauce, jalepenos and all.
John wants to bring back Blues and Bones—we talked about doing that.
Jackie talked about returning to a restaurant for a second chance-she had told the owner and he said come back and he would personally take care of the cooking-go.
Ann loves brunch—and loves Colt And Gray and Rioja—
We had to stop---out of time!!!
Remember Strings next Saturday for brunch.
Thanks for listening and calling
