Wyland’s Ocean Blue brings great excitement to The Shops of Northfield and a reason to get there soon. The space is beautiful. Enter into a huge bar area with an amazing waterfall behind the bar, soft blue lighting, and art everywhere. There is one room devoted to showing off the paintings of Marine Life Artist Wyland, along with some seating for diners in that space. The main dining room is lovely, again with paintings, sculptures, and huge bronze piece and another waterfall. A lovely fireplace softens the space as well. Comfortable booths and tables nicely space make for great conversation as you look out the floor to ceiling windows. Table settings immediately catch your attention as the silver is designed with fish tails. The menu features seafood but there are choices for those who are meat lovers as well. Start with exciting appetizers of broiled oysters dynamite, Bahaman style conch fritters, an old favorite not found too often but so worth having, a shrimp cocktail Ixtapa that is awesome, and Big Island style mussels. Salads of arugula and berries and a southwestern Bibb make a great second course. The entrée list begins with the fresh fish offerings and then a selection of sauces to complement the entree and please the diner. These are extra but certainly enhance the tastes of the perfectly cooked fish. Icelandic artic char with the soy sauce, jumbo scallops with a curry topping, and a double cut pork chop with chutney make decisions difficult. Presentation is stunning, tastes even better. Sides include mashed yams, rice, asparagus, spinach, and onion rings. Decadent desserts end the feast: an assortment of crème brulees, key lime pie, and a selection of sorbets and gelato. The wine list is excellent, service shines. Leave your surf board at home, but Wyland’s Ocean Blue brings great food and a feeling of being on the coast to Denver.
