Welcome 2012, the Year of the Dragon!
Are you ready and excited for the new year? I love the feeling of 'beginning'. It's fresh, vivid and lively. It's a full of new energy. But the question is how can we keep this excited feeling, or momentum, going throughout the year?
I'm celebrating my 9th year of teaching this year. I teach Martial Arts and Yoga. I love what I do because I get to share my experiences, knowledge and energy with lots of people and they give me lots of energy back too; that's the best part. It's a sort of energy exchange.
Once in a while, some people ask me, 'You never get tired of doing the same thing over and over everyday???' Well, I guess some people are tired of what they do, but not me. I always get excited for what I do. Even though I've been teaching pretty much the same format for the last 8 years, every single class/session is different. I continue to educate and challenge myself and all my students to stay fresh, vivid and lively. Otherwise, we get bored so quickly, right? But more importantly, there are countless moments that I'm moved or touched by countless people everyday.
My dear 5th grade teacher, who I'm still in touch with and continues to inspire me, used to tell us 'Get excited for sunrise and sunset. Get excited for even a little flower or tree on the street. Get excited for everything you do at school and being with your friends. Be touched by everything, everybody and your life.' He must be in his middle to late seventies by now, but he is very curious for many things. He enjoys writing (he published a couple of books in Japan), learning how to use computer (we exchange e-mails) and singing with his choir group. He continues to get excited for his life and be touched by so many people and things.
There are couple of things that I want to do this year and I'm sure you have ones too. But can we always keep our 'excited' mind for whatever we do throughout the year? Then, maybe this 'new year freshness' feeling will never go away.
Once again, welcome, 2012, year of the dragon!
