Shells and Sauce
2600 E. 12th Ave.
Enter this delightful spot and you know you are going to have a wonderful experience. This is what every neighborhood trattoria should be—warm, friendly and fun, with delicious food and wine. The restaurant is designed with colors of terra cotta and gold, tile floors, lovely oak tables and terrific tableware. Add an open kitchen, a focal bar with great lighting, and big windows, and the scene is set for the Italian-Californian food prepared to please the crowds. Start with homemade bread with terrific dipping sauce and peruse the wine list that offers many choices at great prices by the glass or bottle. Then pick your appetizer from calamari fritti, Brie bruschetta, sausage with peppers and onions, caprese salad and Sicilian mussels. Salads include arugula, spinach with nuts and berries, a terrific Caesar, or house. For pastas, try shrimp scampi, linguine with clams, delicious stuffed shells, the best lasagna ever or baked cheese ravioli. The seafood cioppino pasta is a must. Entrées range from chicken, eggplant or veal Parmesan, chicken or veal Marsala, an amazing balsamic-glazed salmon fillet and top sirloin. Specials are totally enticing and change nightly. Each dish comes with accompanying sides that add texture and flavor. For lighter fare, don't miss the steak or salmon salads. Desserts are not-to-be-missed with chocolate ganache torte with chocolate mousse filling, crème brûlée, the best tiramisù in Denver and gelato. Weekend brunch is as exciting as dinner and a must on your list. The bar rocks, and you will always find a crowd. Let Andrew and Brady pick your wine or cocktails. The upstairs patio is awesome. Service is friendly and excellent, and prices very reasonable. Shells and Sauce is a dream come true.
