In the Omni Hotel & Resort, Meritage is the upscale delightful dining spot. The room is beautiful with a great bar, terrific tables and booths for dining in an elegant, but still welcoming, setting. Huge windows offer terrific views while all the appointments in the room add to the comfortable scene where one can enjoy the evening and even have conversation. Start with wine with the marvelous sommelier, Dana Eastman, that fascinates guests with his descriptions of the wines and stories behind the wineries. Start with excellent breads as you peruse the menu. There is an additional menu featuring the flavors of France where all the hotels have paired up and designed food from the area. Start with flatbread with pears, caramelized onions and cheese that is a must. Appetizers include seared scallops, cheese puffs with zucchini and mint, a charcuterie and cheese platter, and wild mushroom ragout. Beef Carpaccio, crab cakes, and foie gras are other choices. The butternut squash soup and frisee salad with bacon and egg are perfectly prepared, a great second course. The French entrees of duck breast, sea bass with black currant vinaigrette, chicken willed with fruit, beef with short rib ravioli and steak and frites are served with a French accent in the sauces and sides. All are winners. From the regular menu salmon, a wild raspberry ale brined pork chop, lamb chops, bison, lobster tail, scallops, and a list of steaks make decisions impossible. End with apple tart tatin, divine macaroons, amazing ice cream, or pot de crème. With perfect service, great wines, and terrific food, Meritage steps away from “hotel dining” and is a perfect choice anytime for a great night out.
