What a treat! La Scala Trattoria is located in a small strip on the new hot street of S. Logan and deserves its place here. The décor is great with burgundy walls with a leather finish, fun art, big windows, a terrific bar and comfortable seating in the one room dining space. It is warm and friendly and owners and staff make you part of the family the minute you enter. Start with housemade warm foccacia as you select from the excellent wine list---at reasonable prices. Start with caprese, mussels, fried calamari, crab cakes and antipasti. Don’t miss the mushroom bisque or soup of the day, and the Caesar, spinach, and chop salads are all winners. The pasta list is long—and delicious: Bolognese, alfredo, carbonara, stuffed shells, and Florentine start the list. Add shrimp scampi, vongole, and lobster ravioli for more treats—and the lasagna is a must. Enjoy grilled salmon, cioppino or stuffed salmon for seafood, and entrees of divine veal, chicken, or eggplant parmesan and the same choices with marsala or piccata. All come with great pasta and marinara. Add great wine to complement your meal and you are in for a real Italian treat. End with decadent chocolate lava cake and spumoni. La Scala is a perfect neighborhood place with so much warmth and caring, that you will become a regular—and no matter where you live, you will be happy to make the drive—for food, ambience, service and price.
